Hi all, many of us are members of the Automobile Association, one of the benefits is the 10% discount at Halfords, where many of us get our paints from.  Just show your membership card.  Also there is a 20% discount I think in M&S shops on the motorway.

There was a thread on hot glue guns recently. I pointed out that some have a terrible stand.

Today, while using hot glue, I had one of Homer's Doh! moments. Hot-gluing some wood scraps together I got my solution.
So small it even fits in the glue gun box.

Apologies if this has already been covered. I found this on a French model boats facebook page. 2mm cotton or similar, stretched or wrapped around sockets and covered in superglue, then sprayed to suit.

When applying Deep Heat or any similar pain reducing cream to any part of the body, always...but always, wash your hands before going to the heads to take a pee.

It don't half make you hop about if you don't, I can assure you...   :o

And switch the light on before going to the bathroom cabinet for Germoline if you suffer from piles. You might just pick up the Vick by mistake.....Not me, but a work colleague- we chuckled, the rotten lot we were.

My mate had rubbed deep heat on his thighs, then pulled up his joggies, smearing the cream onto his privates, his wife came back home to find him sitting on the couch with them cooling in a saucepan of water.  ok2

All the comments about the hazards of Superglue reminds me of one of our unfortunate firemen at RAF Hospital Wroughton.
Rather foolishly he had put a tube of Superglue in his trouser pocket. Rather unusually he had a shout, pulled on his fire kit and jumped in his fire engine. Somewhere along the line tube burst, releasing Superglue where you didn't really want Superglue.

It took us humble medics in Casualty about 4 hours to separate his scrotum, his inner thigh, his undies and his trousers.

And the shout, malicious breaking of a call point on the officers married quarters estate. Officers children are no better behaved than any others.

And another anecdote you may not want to hear. I once mistook Ultrabrite toothpaste for my Nupercainal pile ointment. Trust me that is a mistake you only make once.

If you are going to buy a new multimeter, get one that switches itself off after a period of time. Any additional cost on the price of the meter will quickly be offset by the savings on replacement batteries.

Just one of the reasons I will only buy analogue multimeters, as long as you don't leave the dial on ohms then there is no battery drain.

The other reason is that I just don't like digital ones, I find them too slow to stabilise the readings and when using it for continuity checking a moving needle is much more visible than LCD numbers.

I've got 4 analogue meters, one each in the car, caravan, workshop & 'pond box', never far from one.

I don't need to use meters with any real accuracy anymore, just:

Live, dead or burnt out.   :embarrassed:

Same here, 'go - no-go'. Needle moves, go, needle doesn't move, gone.

You don't use it to measure ohms, amps and volts frequently?

A few tips from me. To cut and seal the edges of ripstop pr polyester sail material, I use an olfa rotary cutter blade fitted into a brass fitting which I made, and which clamps to an electric soldering iron. This allows you to cut and seal curves on sails etc very easily but also has other applications, such as running around a template to burn an outline onto wood or plywood which will not rub off as pencil will.
Wanting to reproduce a hull from an old glass fibre mould, but in plastic foam - do not ask - I waxed the inside of the mould well and filled it with expanding gap filling DIY foam from a can. I left it overnight to cure, and it released easily from the heavily waxed mould. I used the foam hull shape as a plug to build a lightweight hull from gummed paper strip, which once removed was later covered with stretch polyester cloth impregnated with epoxy resin. A super lightweight but strong hull resulted.
Bending Perspex. I made a few yacht stands from clear Perspex. These show the boats lines off perfectly. To bend the Perspex accurately I cut a narrow slot in a piece of six mil MDF, mounted the Perspex behind the slot at the proposed bend point, and heated this area with a hot air gun, kept moving and from about five inches. Once hot, the area of the Perspex under the slot will bend easily to whichever angle you require, but do not overheat, practice on a scrap first. Support the Perspex on a piece of MDF as you bend it to keep it flat - and wear gloves too, this stuff gets really hot! Carefully designed, perspex mounts can be used screwed against a wall to give the impression that your boat is floating in space!
