Z37 Narvik References
« on: January 31, 2008, 07:13:26 pm »

I want to build a Deans Marine Z37 Narvik destroyer but my experience building their HMS Kelly indicates you need some additional information over and above the kit drawings. Does anybody know of a good reference for German destroyers of WWII having detailed layout drawings and photos of the fittings? I have already got "German Destroyers of World War II" by Gerhard Koop and Klaus-Peter Schmolke and it has plenty of photos but the quality of the photos is a bit poor. The layout drawings are too small to be of much use for modelling.

Try "Destroyer: German Destroyers in World War Two" by W.J Whitley.

Hi ...
Try contacting ...www.warshipphotos.com in the U.S.A
They do a C.D of official  photos taken by the U.S.Navy after WW2
of the German cruiser Prinz Eugen and the destroyer Z39
There are some good detailed pictures which may be of some use to you.

RHL, by trying to find informations on the internet, their official design was called:
Typ 36A Mob

The term Narvik-destroyer is a typical foreign term and was never used in Germany.
If you go over google I am sure you`ll find some better photographs of them.
Also there is a booklet, printed in Germany. This series was called:
MARINE ARSENAL
And there was one special which is still available over the the 36A Mob.

So get in contact with a good bookstore for oder, or in case of no success there is a very well sorted bookstore called Christian Schmidt in Munich.
Get in touch with them.
Hope that was out of any help.
