Revell Airbrush Enamel
« on: December 29, 2006, 07:41:09 pm »

Has anyone used Revel airbrush enamal paints? I am keen to give it a go, I normally use Halford acrylics out of a spray can for large surfaces like hulls, but I'm keen to try it out with an airbrush as my present build has lots of fine scribed lines that may be lost with too heavy a spray. This comes thined and ready to shoot so seems ideal. Also does anyone if its compatilble with Halford acrylic primier, or should I stick with the Revell stuff.?
Cheers

Hi Mankster- I use to paint with Revell-colours on Acrylpaints, no problems so far.

By using Revell-colours for Airbrush you need to thin them. Now this makes me a bit of headache as the thinner might harm the Halford-base?
The only way to solve is to use a piece of scrap, spray it with Halfords and then use a thinned Revell colour and paint with a simple brush over. You`ll easily find out if it leads to problems or not.

I have tried a variety of paints on the Halfords sprays, not yet had a problem, and further more i know Uboatbuilder has used the Revell/Halfords paints on his U-Boats with no problems.

If you use the Revell Airbrush enamels - not the tins - then they don't need any further thinning. I think they are very good, good coverage and fairly quick drying. I have used them over Halfords Plastic Primer - no problem. They certainly make airbrush use easy - no messing about to get the correct consistency. Also they still have a pretty good coverage when used with a brush to touch up.

Hi  I'm about to have my first go at air brushing  I saw the ready to use paints my model is a MTB approx 3ft how much coverage
due you get as the tins are small as I wish to do the hull and decks. I realise you can only estimate

I would say that you would not have a problem with the Revell jars. Depending on what colour you are covering, 1 jar should cover the hull. If the decks are the same colour, then 2 jars should do the whole lot easily. The only problem I have found with them is that a part jar left for a while seems to thicken, making it more difficult to use without thinning.

My other problem is that there is no local stockist so I have to order them mail order, which is only a problem if you run out part way through a job :(
