Beginners Boat Building
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:17:38 pm »

Hi folks,

Not sure whether this is quite the right place to post this, but ..  for the absolute beginner, the following Tutorial Handout produced for the Edinburgh Model Boat Club members may be of interest.

http://www.sfmbc.net/Beginners_Boat_Building_Part1.pdf

It was put together from information from a wide variety of sources and, as such, represents my views and preferences.  This in no way invalidates the experience of others since there are generally many ways to do any task.

If this helps anyone I'll be very pleased.   :)

Thank you for the link. It never hurts to keep the basics in mind.

...and where do B1L and B1R fit in relation to B2 and the longitudinal stem bulkhead?
By the way, it's 'transom', not 'transome'.  :)

The diagram top left page 10 is intended to show the overlap of deck and bottom sections to allow for sanding down to get a neat fit but didn't quite come out as well on the PDF conversion.  Thanks for pointing this out.  I'll re-do the drawing to emphasise the point.

Bulkheads B1L and B1R fit either side (left and right) of the longitudinal stem bulkhead about half way between B2 and the stem, the actual position depending on the forward section profile and are required to provide a bit of curvature to the hull side.

And as for 'transome' ............  :embarrassed:
Corrected in master copy!

I have updated the file with the corrections and clarifications and you can get it at the following link:
http://www.sfmbc.net/Beginners_Boat_Building_Part1_R1.pdf

For some reason my earlier link seems not to work even though the file is still there  ???

I do appreciate the comments/suggestions.
