High Torque Motors
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:49:13 pm »

Hi Boaters,
Can anyone help please? I'm scratch building a 1/32 scale Tow boat 40inches x 12inch beam. Utilising 115mm Kort nozzles. I need some good motors to throw the  110mm  5 blade props any idea's?
I was thinking of using either Mobile Marines T12 or Robbe 1000 any views on these or any other good power plants?

I would go for the MMM T12's. Very powerful units.

Or consider the 6:1 reduction 550's as sold by Model Slipway.

Hi  has anyone used the MMI T12 motors or the Robbe 1000. Your comments on this motors would be appreciated.
Also it will help me make my mind up which motors to purchase from feedback recieved as to these motors performance.

hi there. I noted on your post you are using a 5 blade 110mm prop. On my boat i have a 5 blade 50mm prop and i use a protech 720bb torque and it gives a lot of power. I know that motor might be to small for what you need but they do a 900 motor thats more power full , this might be good enough for you. Or have you considered a car fan motor , there 12v and very torque. Think how big a car fan is.

Protech motors are unfortunately no longer available but the good news is that graupener seem to have come down in price.MMM do a very good range of motors and yes the Robbie 1000 motor is an excellent one but it's downside is it's price.

If you have some golf courses around your manor, you might want to see if they have any old powered golf caddies lying around.

These often have excellent motors suitable for large propped boats, and wealthy members often discard them if they develop a small fault, which is usually a problem with the controller, and the motor is just fine. Powakaddy is one make that springs to mind.

You should be ashamed of yorself Norry  {-),them T12s should come with a warning (DO NOT INSTALL IN A BOAT UNDER 36" LONG).
I have a pair of 777s in mine and she thinks she is a sub  ;D so yours must be even worse ,i have just replaced one of the 12v motors with a 6v  to lift the stern up a bit and stop her burrying her bum  :embarrassed:
