to becoming an R/C'er, is certainly engaging my brain.
I had to  take my graupner TX apart as the only way to work out which way the switch should point for off. (yes, it was "on" towards the arrow, but the led does not appear to work properly so I just had to do it  :)

After several hours on the charger, I connected the servo to the Rx and turned on the TX, and stood well back. The servo did nothing until I turned the Tx off, then it shimmied and shook all over the table top.  WTF?

After a lot of trial and error, I worked out that (and someone please tell me if I'm right or wrong on this) the RX was searching for a signal, and "stuttering" because it couldnt find one.

It also stutters if the servo is plugged into an outlet that is not controlled by the TX. I have a 4 channel Tx, but an 8 channel RX.

The upshot of all this, is, wait for it..... GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, with the help and encouragement from you lot, and figuring out that what I thought should be channel 2 (steering) is actually channel 4 on the RX, I can make that little servo go left or right, from the other side of the kitchen, without wires!

My wife, who I made get out of her armchair and go to the kitchen to watch, did not seem quite as enthusiastic as I thought she should be, but thats women for you. they aint got no soul. :angel:

Hopefully I shall get a little parcel from FLJ tomorrow, and I can do some serious wiring....

...while cats love it. I "often" place my RX, batts and associated servos around the house, in order to drive them nuts. Sticking fake mice on the servo arms is good value. Don't move the servos for a while, let 'em get close, then...

I knew it! it couldnt be that easy could it?

The TX on/off switch is crap. This is obviously why the battery showed only 1 volt to start with.
It has a false middle position which is off, when its pushed to either end of its travel, its "on".
I shall have to fit another switch between battery and pcb, and leave that switch permanently on.

There are too many soldered and tiny connections for me to swap that switch, its beyond my capability and patience threshold. :'(

I got my distribution board from FLJ today, very tidy unit, wired it all up and hey, whaddya know? IT WORKS

Just that bad switch in the TX to replace, and I can concentrate on getting on with the boat itself.

Nothing is firmly located in that pic, i just put it roughly where it was going to go so I could actually see the motors run and the steering servo turn.
Now its all gotta come out again so the hull and superstructure can be painted.

Once all the work is finsihed , I'll take a set of pics as I assemble it, and then I wont be ranting at everybody anymore.

 

But I'm off on me hols now, so youve got a couple weeks peace and quiet, make the most of it.
