Forget the ship for a minute. Look at the deck hangar/shelter. Immediately after the Falklands thing the RFA took over a Harrison Line container ship and re-named it RFA Reliant. This ship operated as a sort of aircraft carrier for a few years. But my point of interest is that she employed a "new" system of making a ship an instant aircraft carrier. An American system code named "Arapaho", which was basically a bunch of containers/Portacabins equipped to operate/maintain/house personnel etc. cheaply and quickly. I think it worked given the time it took to "convert". Perhaps the system is being re-introduced by the USN. A Damn sight cheaper than the monstrosities being proposed. BY.
