please help - UK Cadets - E-Petitions
« on: March 07, 2008, 05:53:50 pm »

Hi all,
I am asking you to sign this petition to help the people in the cadet forces (both cadet and instructors)
The primary role of the cadet forces in the modern age is to give kids the chance to further them self's
with various way such as leadership, The duke of Edinburgh award scheme, citizenship training etc)
What a lot of people don't realise the kids (parents) need to buy differant kit that is required.
the problem is this the MOD say they cannot give the kit to the cadets for health and safety reasons
but can sell it to army surplus shops, the parents then go to these shops and buy it at inflated prices.
a lot of the kids involved in the cadet forces are from deprived areas and cannot afford the stuff yet they
are required to turn up and keep the same standard of uniform as the regulars.
just recently the RAF changed style of the dress uniforms and sold the old style to the surplus shops
yet the ATC instructors are required to provide their own what was the problem in giving the old style
to the instructors.
another good example is that the MOD get rid of surplus boots and shoes to the surplus shops
stating that they may have foot infections and cannot give them to the cadets. then they have to go
to the surplus shop and buy these same boots & shoes.
Please sign the petition and try to get this readdressed

Colin

I have signed this but can anyone answer. My wife and Daughter are guide leaders and they have to pay for all their own uniforms, where can they get some support? This also applies to the Scouting movement.

Alan,
I was told last year that the government is to give the guides and scouts a cash boost to help them to fund more activities for the ASBO brigade and get more kids off the street.
the original idea was to give the money to the cadet forces to do this and to put units into schools but that was deemed to be "national service". I hope the cash does get passed thru to where it is needed but knowing the government it will get spent on more localised youth clubs that do nothing for kids but give them a gang hut to hang out in. I firmly believe that all those who volunteer in this day should get more help from the government.

Alan, if you know of a similar petition for the guide and scouts then if you post it her I am confident that members here will sign it also. I know I will
I would rather money goes to deserving organisations rather than wasted

Hi all,
Our Illustrious leaders that be have announced
their reply to the petition here it is.............

Read the Government’s response
Over 130,000 young people are benefiting from the experience of the Cadet Forces (the school based Combined Cadet Force, the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps), supported by over 25,000 Adult Volunteers.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) supports the Cadet Forces with equipment, stores and clothing. This is managed through a set of allowances which lay down the entitlement to clothing and equipment that can be drawn free of charge. These allowances (known as “scales”) of equipment are updated on an annual basis in order that Cadets and Adult Volunteers are supported to a fair and reasonable level within the boundaries of Defence affordability and the Services’ priorities. On top of these allowances, extra clothing can be purchased by adult volunteers from Service stores on the same repayment terms as all other Service personnel.

Where overstocking is identified, all units, including Cadet Stores, are invited to request the stock.

Surplus or obsolete items, however, are sold via the Defence Sales Agency (DSA), largely through a network of marketing contractors, so as to achieve the best return for the taxpayer from the disposal of publicly funded materiel. In line with HM Treasury policy, ‘Gifting’ is not normally considered. It is worth noting that Surplus Companies may be offering manufacturers’ overruns, seconds, copies, alternatives or any other product which may or may not meet the requirements of the Services.

A certain amount of MOD surplus clothing and equipment used by Cadet units will have been declared as surplus but fit for use by Cadet units by the MOD responsible owner; this is pragmatic and is considered best value for money to Defence and the tax payer.

The Government remains committed to supporting the Cadet Movement and, through work with the single Services and other key stakeholders, to improve this area of support where practical, cost effective and affordable.

my thoughts are self censored due to the fact the politicians may not like the truth about themselves

Thanks to all who signed the petition  O0

Signed, but what madness.

It's a long time ago, but I was in my school CCF. I got to fly in an Anson, Varsity, Chipmunk and Provost, and just missed out on a ride in a two-seat Meteor. When I transferred back to the Army section I did an arduous training course with the French Army's Alpine Chasseurs and a summer camp with the Coldstream in Germany. If I'd stayed in the RAF section I'd have had a trip down to Gibraltar instead - probably better avoided as the transport was a Hastings.

Our kit was simply issued to us. As  I recall it, it cost our (wealthy) parents nothing, or next to nothing.Every youngster should have this opportunity.
