Seems I'm fighting a losing battle then. Bummer.
Seriously though, when Martin first introduced that star rating system, how many of us thought it was a naff idea? I mean, we all knew (or at least, most of us knew) that all those cute stars and all those numbers were pretty meaningless anyway, right? And we didn't take long to suss out the ones abusing the system, and we didn't take long to suss out the genuine ones, right again? But hang on a minute. Who cares if it was naff? Who cares if some members were posting like Billy-o in order to up their star rating? From where I'm sitting I get the impression that the whole thing was purely a fun thing. Do any of you actually believe that I thought meself more important than those with fewer stars than I? Nah - it doesn't work that way. For my part the rating system was a bit of an eye opener because it was the first time I'd seen any such system. I guess I come to enjoy seeing all those stars, and seeing who actually deserved them - and who didn't. It was never meant to be taken THAT seriously, was it?
It's a shame you guys opted out, because you had a neat little thing going on there. This was the only forum in the whole of the UK with a bit of tongue-in-cheek how's-yer-father light-hearted nonsense... and it worked. T'was one of Mayhem's better ideas. Shame it had to go.
Anyways, t'was only a bleedin' fun thing, for Gawd sakes. Lighten up a bit. Most members don't need any rating system to tell them who's the bozo and who isn't. But you have to admit it WAS funny to see 'Admiral of the Fleet' next to the names of those who clearly wouldn't know their 'arris from their elbow.
