Some crew members, have also been in the "operating theatre"

Trust me.... I am a doctor.......  you need no anaesthetic I told em  ;D

Looking a bit "grey" from their ordeal, hopefully they will get some colour soon.

The one bending down has discovered I had broken a wooden stanchion support.... "Mama Mia" he crys...... you will have to get that fixed !

Gogsamwe, what is the glazing made of and how did you fit it without it clouding? Love the little maps on the windows and the newspaper. Strange, I would not have looked twice if I'd seen this kind of kit in a shop but following your progress makes me realize what an interesting and detailed subject it can be.

Thanks Pointy  :D

The Glazing material, is as supplied in the kit, I reckon its similar to photocopy acetate sheeting, its certainly very flexible, and easily cut with scissors.....unlike the harder plasti-card stuff one usually gets in a kit.

As for adhesive, I use a product called "weldbond"..... its a sort of strong PVA, but dries clear, and has good  initial tack quality.

Obtainable at most good model shops tis about £3 a small bottle.

(There is also a specialist glazing glue that one can use, the plastic  model aircraft guys use it, I cannot recall the name at the moment. When I remember, I shall post it here for you ! )

The kit ? well, as stated in my initial post  of this thread, as experienced as I am.... I have always fancied a POF model ( note some elitists....as I have found out will try and correct this and call it POB =plank on bulkhead, But I prefer POF ......so there ! ;D )

Wood is not my favourite material, ( specially when after all the effort, you are supposed to disguise  that it IS wood! ) and believe me, getting a working 3d hull out of a flat pack kit, is a bit daunting...... but as I found, there are a lot of helpful people on the web, who are willing to advise at the parts one struggles with  ;)

Once you have a few models under your belt, I'd recommend the experience to anyone, watching it take shape does really give you a kick   :D

The detailing, additions, come purely from research using the web, to death ! Just "adds" a little something extra to any model  I feel, makes it personal, and elevates it above the normal out of the kit box look.

Hope this all helps, Pointy, and thanks to all for the encouragement ;D

Cheers

Hi Pointy..

This is the stuff the plastic aero modellers use  ;D

Micro Kristal Klear

Microscale Kristal Klear [1 (US) fl Oz / 29.56 ml)

Clear liquid plastic adhesive for gluing windows into models and creating small windows. It joins most dissimilar materials and is especially useful on clear plastic parts for nearly invisible joints. WILL NOT CAUSE CRAZING OF CLEAR PARTS."

You can get it here > http://www.themodelcatalogue.com/acatalog/Microscale_Glue.html

Enjoy.........

Marco..... well...... he is just forever shouting Mama Mia !

The seating in the p_a_s_s_enger  cabin has now been installed.

Your wiring contractors are making a much neater job than the lot that did my house! Bet there's no broken floorboards either.

However, no matter how hard I try, I have one crew member "Marco" who ,just cannot be pleased !

I have repaired the broken stanchion, and he still cries Mama Mia  ;D

and he's even inspecting the battery and R/C bay.....and he's still NOT happy

Praps he will lighten up, on the maiden voyage  ???

Just pour a couple of grappas down him and he will cheer up immensly.

It's looking good - how did you hide the grain of the wood?

Thanks Tim ;)

Sanding sealer is the answer,  coat, let dry, sand back, coat , let dry and sand back.....until you are happy with the finish, then primer then top coat.

To be honest, trying to "disguise" that wood is not wood is a real pain in the a**, much easier if wood is to look like wood,

see my other other build here....to see what I mean,

But , none the less, I am enjoying the build..... its not without its problems.....or my c_o_c_k ups... but  keeps me sane......  I think......

( ignoring the fact that I talk to my little plastic crew members)

Steve,

You could always see what Marco has to say about the problems. If he feels part of the process he might be a bit happier.

Management Consultant!!!!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I'm insulted.

Management Consultant - someone to whom you pay a great deal of money to tell you the time using your watch and who then will not take responsibility when you are late for an important meeting.

Closest I get is being a PHB. It is important to keep the workforce happy - a happy workforce is an exploitable workforce  ;D ;D

More progress on my Italian Job, however, there is no pleasing my Inspector Marco  ::)

For full update go here http://www.modelshipworld.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2697#2697

Heres a few pics of the recent build progress. I had a devil of a job getting a wopping piece of ply to fit around the bow and stern bulwarks, I managed in the end, however, have decided to clad the outside of this ply with 0.75 plasticard.. which has given it a nice finish  ;D
