Well guys

here she is , completed as far as the kits concerned.

I still have much more to do to her, with superdetailing , decals, weathering, the inevitable "full" sea trials and those night time illuminated shots.

The weather here this weekend has been awful ... so her maiden voyage with roof fitted will have to wait  :)

I shall post more  pics as and when I can.

A full review will be "in the other place" ( MSW ) with more pics...

I hope you have enjoyed the diary of her build, many thanks for all your encouragement.

I shall keep you posted with her continued progress ;D

... and I can't spell it either! But wanted to say it looks excellent though....

Thought you may need one of these to keep it company (and something else for Marco to inspect!) ;D

Okay, even though the kit build is finished, I feel my "Italian Job " is not yet complete..

She is now entering her "superdetailing stage" with Phase 1 completed tonight.

I have based my superdetailing on various photos of the prototype vessels.

This is the main source.....

Closer inspection of prototypes, is all part of the "research", Vital to take the manufacturers kit, beyond even how they envisaged it !

Thanks to the www, and modern pcs and printers, this has now become easier to do..

Here's my model as of tonight :

Added detailing includes: Disabled  logo by the gates, new Actv fleet numbers, New Venice registration numbers, the large ACTv logo and even no smoking signs above the doors.

This is phase 1,    The magic of home made decals , really makes all the difference

She now is VERY different to the standard kit version, and I feel takes her to the "next level" of detailing.

More coming to a Forum or two near you !

I would just like to say how much I have enjoyed reading about this build - you've done a fantastic job bringing to life an unusual model that many of us have probably glanced at in the model shops but never given a second thought to build ourselves. Just goes to show what can be done with a bit of thought. Very much appreciated.

Why Thank Ye Kind Sirs,

blush, blush, ;D

I must confess I have a real soft spot for this model, being my very first "woody"  model too... its very special, and I aint finished yet !!

I believe this to be my best model yet, but hey, what the heck I AM BIASED, anyway  ;D

I have just a tad more to do on decal additions.... then  more on the actual detailing, then comes the piece de resistance...... ;D

Also of course,  she has yet to have her  "proper " maiden, photos coming soon...
(well, after she gets the okay from Marco, chief engineer)

I shall keep you posted chaps  ;)

Steve ;D

ps
Brian, I am in Brum

(where ya caw beat a cortina) as they used to say in old money. ;)

Detailing continues ... today the "wasp stripes" decals have been fitted, these are the passenger hazard stripes as fitted to the prototype underneath the entry gates.

I am not entirely happy with these... so they may be only temporary, till I make adjustments, and fit better ones.

Ha.. I knew you wouldnt notice, ;)

But I have.. so not happy with them...

There are TOO MANY STRIPES !!

Here's  version 2  on the pc desktop, I need to order some more decal sheet before I can apply them !

I shall justify this in next post !

Trust me, Marco told me this

Steve  ;)

Okay, to the casual observer, they probably look okay..

However, when one undertakes the necessary research, we start to "look in depth" at the detailing of the prototype.

As we research more, and gather more and more information, we start to see all the little details that  the casual observer misses. After all,  the more we get closer to the subject matter, the more intimate we can get ( darlin  :-*  )

In effect, we become mini "experts" at what we are doing /modelling or researching..

I never used to do this, with any of my previous models, ( even when I used to  build and review for MMi magazine ! ) oops my secret is out  ;D

This said.. I now find the research adds immense extra value to what  I model.. and it seems you guys appreciate and notice that too. So the theory is sound  ;D

I thank my best pal Richard for this advice, the magic word is "research"... I would  echo this advice to anyone building more than "just " a model boat .

Research !

...... aaaaahhhh! Naw a see what yer takin aboot man lad!  :D

While we're on, (that's geordie I think, but haven't a clue what it means!) was that your carrot and stick approach then? You know, one minute blowing sweet nuthin's in me ear - and the next shoutin' yer heed off down me lug 'ole! (some o' thats geordie an orl, but agin, not sure which!)  ;D

Soo, bottom line is - yer need some massive great stripes now instead o' little uns??

Brian,

I did the original stripes, using some O gauge railway decals, my pal Richard gave me.

They looked okay once on......as you can see.. however ...

I couldnt quite put even my own finger on why something didnt look quite right ! ???

I kept looking at my research pics , then the penny dropped... too many stripes in me wasp !

Illustrates the point though, dont' you think ???

The value of research.. really does add authenticity to a model......
and what the heck, I will be happy with her , so who "gives a kipper "  anyway ;D

Hopefully this awful persisting down weather will break before the weekend so I she can have her proper maiden voyage.. ;)

Photos coming soon !!

Steve  :D

... and I totally agree with you about the effort you've put into the research... your build will become more unique and special because of it!

I'll look forward in anticipation to the maiden voyage pics - when it stops raining of course....

Cheers, Brian

Okay,

So here is my final attempt for my wasp stripes..

Its taken about 3 hours solid, pratting about with pc to get this close. so  S*d it, they are close enough... ;)

They still have more stripes than the prototype, but they look infinately more realistic than those titchy ones...

Well I think so ! ;D

bring on the decal paper now.
