Looking at the pin end of the plug, three pins at the top, the Left is Positive, Top is Negative, Right is unused.

Hope this is clear.

Thank you for that, mine looks different to yours,
looking at my socket looking left - right pin 1 used, pin 2 unused, pin 3 used, pin 4 unused, pin 5 used

The plug definitely only has three pins - didn't look at the socket :)

I can try to see if I can see the back of the socket if you wish. It is the same model.

Make sure there's some juice in the battery by watching the meter when you switch on. A flicker = life.  Switch the Tx OFF. Grab a digital multimeter; set it onto the 20v DC scale and shove the probes into various combinations of holes. It will show one of three things; nothing, -v or +v. It's the latter you want. You now have identified Red = +ve and Black = -ve for a new charger plug.
If 'twere mine, I'd disconnect the DIN socket and fit a standard 2.1mm DC power socket, to fit any number of plug-top chargers. Saves mucking about later with a DIN plug.
Works for me. Suit yourself.

FLJ is right - a multi-meter is the way to find out for sure, BUT I've just checked the outside of the case and the socket is a 5 pin. Don't have time now to take the cover off, but my guess is that you ignore the two outside pins. Should be able to work it out from that.
