droopy rigging
« on: March 19, 2008, 10:04:35 am »

Hi All,
In the past I have broken too many parts on my scale boats by catching my hands on the rigging. This time I decided to use shiring elastic that my wife got for me. Now a couple of months later the elasticity has all gone on and I am getting some unfortunate comments about droopyness! My wife said I should try putting viagra into the rigging!
What do you guys use? Where did you get it? Someone save my reputation please.

 ;D

The Moral of this story..

is that you should keep your hands off your rigging, if you are going to let your wife interfere with your rigging then expect it to end up droopy (shouldn't that be "end down")

I think you should consider yourself luck that it took so long!!

I have exactly the same problem and the two options are to experiment with differrent types of elastic, the stuff that is cotton covered doesn't seem to last five minutes but the bare elastic cord stuff works a lot better.  I have a piece of that on my U-Boat abd it has not lost any elasticity after a couple of years.

The other option is small springs at the end of a hard cotton thread.  This can be unsightly although very effective so you have top pick what is more important for you.

I use this method , put the spring underneath the deck or roof that way it looks neat

Thanks guys,
there is a lot of rigging, much of it between masts, funnels etc, so springs are not best for me. I noticed another thread ( sorry about the pun) just started that mentions black elastic rigging cord, I've not heard of this, can someone enlighten me?

Just added this on another post, i use 0.5mm elasticated black cord from the HobbyCraft shops, they sell it for making up bangles and necklaces.

Hi Russ, we're replying to each others post on each others threads. How long does the black stuff stay tight?
