Also the HobbyCraft shops, they sell it for making elasticated bangles/necklaces etc.

Hi dicky,
I just started another thread about my problems with droopy rigging then I saw this post. I've not heard of this stuff for rigging, what's it like? and does it stay taught?
   Thanks

its called shearing elastic, , if you get the more manmade stuff ( less elastic in it- but stronger) you can run a naked flame along the cord with a cigarette lighter or candle flame and it shrinks/ tightens up

shearing

I've always heard it referred to as shirring elastic. I have used it in the past and it lasted quite well. See: http://www.sewessential.co.uk/Category.asp?CategoryID=457&NumPerPage=5&Page=1

I use a product called Stretch Magic. Its described as a plastic elastic. and available in 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0mm in either black or clear. It doesnt have a fabric outer sheath so wont fray. Available from http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/beadstringingthreads.html.

I've used it on the fwd handrails of my mini Trent lifeboat.
