HMS Belfast
« on: March 17, 2008, 07:16:11 pm »

Dear All,

For the record, I have great pleasure to advise that my 1:96 Belfast was launched at 11.30 am. today - this being as near to the hour of the 70th Anniversary of the original launch as was historically possible.

This target was unknown to me until four weeks ago, and has resulted in some energetic finishing off to achieve this date! Like the original vessel on launch, she is not fully completed (though in this case very close), but a couple more months will see her fully operational - to my satisfaction anyway.

Regards, Bernard

Dear All,

Thankyou for your replies, just a quick note before I go out.

Colin, rcd. thanks, will reply later when get back.

Richard, when I have the new PC set up I can do p.graphs, but not with this one sorry to say. Bought the new PC before Christmas, but there just hasn't been time to get everything transferred - but intend to do soonest as this one is getting progressively slower.

Bob, it was a non powered launch in the test tank... a huge concrete cattle trough! - 12' long, 4' wide, and 3' high. Absolutely perfect for the job! Took the opportunity to start the ballasting - even with the 6v 10Ah battery it took a lot of weight to get settled! Just a matter of melting into single shaped pieces - or sizes suitable.

Bernard,
Before you get too far ballasting her is thers room and weight for another 6v 10ah battery?
This will make the removal of ballast easier making het lighter to launch/recover, and give you double the endurance.

Dear Bob,

Thankyou for your suggestion. I have considered this, and will make a final decision when I get some time to weigh the ballast. I am certain that the answer is yes. I was intending to make the ballast 'detachable' (thus melt-&-mould), though the stern and 'semi stern' ballast is slightly more difficult but the option is there all the same.

Dear Bob,

Yes, of course I will, and will be pleased to do so. Just a matter of learning how the camera works and getting the new PC set up and running! The new PC has been sitting in the Off. for over two months, but it's a question of getting the time to swap files over etc.. It must be done soon now though.
