Had one, but only the Freelander, you most probably don't class this as a L?Rover. Still it's gone now thank goodness, cost me a fortune.

Hi
Yes I had an air portable light weight land rover, with a fuel tank under the drivers seat and a spare tank under the passenger seat it cost a fortune to fill
both tanks could not afford to run one now,

Only had a Suzuki vitara but i know plenty of people with landy's ranging from mk2 hybrids to bobtails and jacked up V8 90's.
Still a good mate of mine has a Unimog thats jacked right up brilliant for off roading as he has never got stuck YET.

Hi guys........once had a series two long wheelbase safari..........2.5 petrol.........what a thirsty beast  :(......and s.w.m.b.o. always used to complain that it took nearly fifteen minutes after she got out of it , for all her bits to stop shaking , and her blurred vision to stop ...........coz the dammed thing shook and vibrated so much..... :D.
Saw the light after that and bought a range rover , but it was too slow so modified it with a 5.7 chevy v8..........transmission whined like the devil but it went like stink !!! O0..........haven't got them now :'(. have to drive a sensible diesel :'(

                     regards....bob.

Years ago had the forward control version ex gun tractor for the RA. It drank petrol but would go just about anywhere. Very handy when you lived in Buxton Derby's.

I'm hoping to get one of the Series Land Rovers on the road this summer, eime will tell. :)

Had a series 2 swb 2.5 petrol for a year or so, I actually needed this vehicle and it would go anywhere. There endeth the plus points. The minus points were :noisy, vibratory, thirsty, uncomfortable, draughty and at times unreliable due to age.The carburetter used to ice up in the winter and the thing used to grind to a halt in the middle of nowhere, this was last thing I really needed on a cold, wet, windswept dark winters morning as I used to have to get out and chip the ice from the carb' bellmouth to get it going again!
This thing was ponderous, you could get scurvy on a long trip and when you did get there, you were suffering from shell shock and a depleted wallet due to the fuel consumption. You could get 'white finger' syndrome if you rested your hand on the gear lever at anything above 45mph.
When I got home from work, my dog, who loved anything with wheels, would bound across the garden and jump up on the spare wheel on the bonnet just so he could get free ride up the driveway!
I learned to hate and despise the thing and was glad to see the back of it but think on this, if everything in life was perfect, it would be a really dull existence with nothing to laugh about and reminisce over. This machine was a workhorse, very agricultural and was outstandingly good when used for the purpose for which it was designed. It served my purpose at the time and made me further appreciate my Rover SD1 which I absolutely loved.
As a footnote, I used to own a 4.2  series 3 Jaguar and on fuel, it was much cheaper to run compared to that Landrover!

Your choice of vehicles sounds very much like mine as for the Rover yes please anytime but it would have to be a V8 a Jag I've seen how they rot I'd have to be very carefull going down that road.

Hi Andy, I loved the Jaguar but it was a labour of love, the only part I never dismantled and rebuilt was the steering. Most of the bodywork had been dismantled and replaced and it was a bit like the Forth road bridge! Smoothest car in the world and deathly silent but I have swapped it for an old 16ft clinker motor boat which is yet another project.
I won't own another Land Rover..... or a Jaguar but all I can say is... "bin there, got the 'T' shirt" O0

I wouldn't be so quick saying that if I was you, the saying once bitten twice shy does not apply to Land Rovers only dogs. {-) {-)

All the best, Andy. O0

If we have too worry about the fuel consumption, we should leave them alone, can't help but wonder how much my V8 has cost my friend in petrol over the last 2 weeks. :o :o
