National Submarine Day 2006
« on: July 17, 2006, 08:33:11 am »

This will be held at Norwich Model Boat club. Eaton Park. Norwich on Sunday 20th August.
this is an all day event starting at 0900.
Last year we had in excess of thirty different subs on display.

Currently the pond is 60% clear with no weed, for those of you not familar with Eaton Park, it is a puropse built pond with 100% access to all areas including the middle! so no lost boats.

Hi Turbulent! Do you know if there will be 'other traffic' on the water or can it be kept solely for subs. Rheinhardt was torpedoed  by an anti- submarine racing yacht and suffered a bent prop shaft whilst running submerged. Those ruddy things have a 2kilo, pointed, anti- submarine keel weight and get you even if you lie doggo on the bottom! His boat has been in the yard and brought to servicable condition so it may be possible that we may both (the Norwich Kriegsmarine) be able to turn up for that 'do'.

We rope off the majority of the lake for the day, all targets etc are kept out off the sub pen to avoid accidents.

Strictly NO YACHTS. All Yellow wellie brigade are kept well away.

BTW, Trenchant's refit is progressing nicely.

I'm afraid Turbulent is incorrect when he states there is no weed in the pond at Eaton Park. He has, so far, been fortunate enough not to encounter any.
U147 was silent running at periscpe depth two weeks ago. It suddenly disappeared which caused considerable concern, considering it had only just returned to active service after a big salvage operation. When it did eventually surface it was running very slowly and then stoped near the side of the pond. The port prop. and kort nozzle were completely jammed with a very fibrous weed. The boat was returned to dry dock were the port motor/gearbox and speed controller were found to be faulty and needed total replacement. The boat has now been repaired and should sail this Sunday on it's next patrol.

Roy, there are a few of us looking at rigging torp's which have been ordered through a club member, but I'm not sure if they will be fitted by the 20th.

i am working on a design of my own for Trenchant but again this is a long way off.

Paul, do you know what type of torpedo's the club member is making (elecltric, gas ?). Do you know if there will be any samples to peruse over on the 20th?
Cheers

They are gas Propelled & I think he will have at least one set their, although they may not be fitted into a sub, I've seen them in action & they're very impressive.
