Sphygmomanometer as a pump!
« on: March 26, 2008, 04:38:17 pm »

Can a Sphygmomanometer be used in a model submarine?

To save you looking it up, Sphygmomanometer are those battery powered Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors.
I was up at the quacks today ( sorry to disappoint you all but the prognosis is that I'll probably live! ) and she did
the old blood pressure test with one of those small machines. I was really impressed how quick it was and the
surprised at how much pressure it generated - felt like it was going to pull me arm off!!  :o

You can buy them for as little as £8 ( http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6419.msg63513#msg63513 )
Anyone used one or stripped one down for a look inside?

Martin what the quack really meant was that you have got to walk round the lake with your boat and not stand in the same place O0

These gadgets usually use small diaphragm based electric pumps. As such these devices will usually pump between 10-15psi, which is good for 20-30 feet depth, should you go that far!

They are very suitable for small submarine use i.e. conversion of Trumpeter and Revell kits, and can make for a very economic static dive ballast system.

You'd be well advised to do a search for RCABS on Sub committee and Sub Pirates message boards.
