What would a beginner need?
« on: April 01, 2008, 10:02:03 pm »

OK, so now I have your attention.........  O0

How do you wire a boat up? This is not a stupid question - but one I seriously want an answer to! I know what it needs - I just don't know how to wire it up so here goes.

Model is a single screw HFM ORSV. Prop is 38mm but I need as follows: suitabloe length shaft plus what type of coupling and what sort of motor to make it plug along at a scale speed?

Hiow do you: Connect up a servo, what is it connected to, where does the ESC it in all of this? Where does the RX fit in and how? Basically, a wiring diagram from TX to [prop would be good, with ideas on kit needed. Good servo, ESC, Rx, battery - I have a Futaba 2 ch TX - what do I need to do to make it work with this kit....is FM better than AM? What is the best battery for the boat so it runs for ages?

Spare a thought about us types who work like billy-O making a moel look presentable and then stick it on astand somewhere.....because we ain't as clever as you guys!

Vaery good book on electrics is

'The Complete Marine Radio Control Manual'     by Hugh Bright.
ISBN 1-86176-234-8              Published  by Chatham Publishing.

Borrowed one from library and was so impressed I bought one!
Easy to understand without a degree in electronics too!

They sometimes crop up on e-b*y

Wow - many thanks chaps!

The type of boat I am going to run can be seen on this thread:  http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5854.0

Some mods - no windows, blanks - and re-cut fore deck and main deck in plasticard with wooden sheathing on work deck and more open stern (a la mit Lloyd 80 / 100 class) with roller built in etc etc.....bulwardks stiffened up by addition of round plastic bar...soft node bow fender and beefed up main rubbing strake.....and so on.....as I am ex this type of vessel, I should be able to come up with something inique and passable!

Keep the ideas comng - but thanks for the tips. Especially Full leather Jacket - that was a great help!

I'll posty something of possible interest to all members on a seperate thread......it involves ships....radio.....and should keep you occupied as a way of saying 'Ta'!

Alan,

The book arrived today - pristine condition, so many thanks.

Alas, I can't make the show you sent flyers for as I am engaged that weekend but hope it all goes well and that you make a success of it.

Cheers again!
