new to this - advice on motors please
« on: May 02, 2011, 11:34:06 am »

Hi, I've never build an rc boat before but here goes. I've ordered a Billings Phantom and would like any advice on offer regarding motor/battery choice.  As it is a planing hull I would like to be able to achieve this but also am looking for a decent run-time from the battery.  My best stab at it so far is an MFA Torpedo 850 and 12v lead acid, but that's based on no experince and little information

Thanks, Andrew  {:-{

I, thanks, dont have the right player for the vid - will try later.  I imagine I will want it a bit more sedate though being a novice. In the meantime what are the pro's/con's with different batteries and how is the 'power' of an electric motor rated for comparison?

Thats Xilsoe's
He's a member on here and has been helpful when I have spoken to him about building mine

Im using a speed 480BB race in mine but im having problems with the veneering lifting at the edges on the sides of mine so its as yet not water tested.

With some 2 cell lipos
Xilsoe's build log is here

When you build this before fitting the deck I suggest some 6x6mm section along the edges where the deck fits this makes it fit so much better also add some strengthening blocks either side of the keel wher the propshaft and rudder fit through.

Ill take some pictures of mine later so you can see what I mean
