Linkage Informaton
« on: May 18, 2008, 05:40:34 pm »

Hi
It's the first time I've had to install the linkage for the rudder to servo.
I have the bits as per photo.  (the rectangular black plastic is a mystery to me - it came with my Futaba RC)

I would guess the 'tennis racket' shaped piece of plastic screws onto the rod.
The screw / bolt goes through the brass ball joint.  This in turn is force fitted into the socket. Would the nuts be used on the end of the Bolt to lock the assembly to the rudder or servo?

SS rod - do I cut to length and bend twice to fit through the servo or rudder?  Giving it slight adjustment with the threaded part?

There are two SS threaded rods in pack 1 and two sets of ball joints in pack 2.

Does anyone have a close up photo of this type of assembly?

thanks
Gary :)

As Stavros says Gary, do it as your diagram. Put the adjusting end on either servo or rudder arm which ever is going to be easiest to get to to adjust when the boat is finished

I believe its a mounting frame for RC in one of them new fangled flying machines.    Mine sits in the spares box waiting for a problem to solve.

PS Intrigued by your strap line. Get the Velcro bit but where does Verdi come in?

Thanks Stavros, Richard and Doug
Good place to put that mystery object - I'll put it in my odds and sods box too.

The Verdi, Vidi, Vinci   -  is from the Latin
I came, I saw, I conquered.

However I may have spelt it somewhat different to the Romans. (or any other nationality);D

Hi Gary

The word you want is Veni 'I came' as Caesar had it.

Verdi was a composer only now he's a decomposer   :embarrassed:

Hi GaryM,

The rectangle thingy is great and its a servo mounting block I have used several.
Pop out the small bits in the middle and you will find that the servos will slide into the slots and then you can screw the mounting to the area easier than the servo direct (so I have found) also the plate allows for two servos next to each other, lots of variations.

I like the mounting plates.

Thanks Catengineman and Bee
I will use mount on my next model. :)
Should I lubricate the servo spindle as well?

All the servos I have taken apart to mod have had grease within the gubbing so you wont need to grease the spigot.
just all the moving parts of the linkage at the ball and sockets or rod and hole.

Here is a pic of how I have connected the rudder to the servo in a 10 foot model of Prinz Eugen.

Stavros,

with that linkage arrangement, do you achieve equal rotations of the rudders going in each direction?  The reason i ask is i have a similar set up on my tug and im trying to solve this while at the same time get a little more 'throw' on the rudders too.

Cheers,

Gary

yes absolutely equal,if you need more throw then I suggest lengthening the servo arm as I did

I don't wish to steal your thread, but "do all servos turn the same way" on recieving the signal ?

I only ask because I fitted mine and used one arm only and it turns the wrong way  I've no room to put the servo on the other side arm on the rudder. The only way I can run this system is to reverse the switch control on the transmitter.

Hi Ken
You require a little gadget ,a servo reverser, which plugs in between your RX and your servo .
check out the ACTion website not sure if they do one , but if you ask the man he may help

John,

He doesn't really need a servo reverser if his transmitter has servo reversing ;)
