I have seen Ray's fishing boat and it is an absolute cracker (as are all of his models).  I have the hull and deck mouldings, etc., for this boat which I bought from David Metcalf (Metcalf Mouldings), some time ago when I was a member of the same club as David (Hertford).  I have yet to start on this one but I have lots of photos of Ray's boat as inspiration.  These hulls are among several that Metcalf Mouldings sold fairly recently to Models By Design.

i think these were the hulls that David  at Metcalfe aquired after the originator ( ivor Broughton) from  norwich  area ceased trading as 'Boats and models' .......

he did several similar style of boats, several cygnus  boat designs...

Thanks very much for the info guys

So ray you think the 12 scale of yours would handel better than the 32 maybe? Iv never seen one of these boats running before so its abit hard to pick lol

The 32 up for sale was £170 something its got a motor and a servo plus deck is already stuck down, the wood capin is on and it had a 6v batt, i kinda felt it was to light for some reason but i guess there aint alot of hull in the water  ::) Im thinkin maybe it might be better to buy a new one then of the 12 slace of yours ray  :-\

its going to be for my dad and i know he wanted to fit a winch and things so maybe it will be better to build that in while buildin the boat

Ta again

ray111,

Any chance of a few photos of your cygnus up close. I'm been considering one for my next project since seen them last year on the show circuit.

FC,
If you let me have your email address I will let you have the photos that I have of Ray's fishing boat.  I'm sure he won't mind me doing this.  I presume that you are on broadband as I have 7 or 8 photos.   O0

Marine Modelling in the feb 2008 has a write up of what they are callin the cygnus sf33 ( though its infact the gm33 )  O0

If you have the mag might be worth having alook :)

I really wish they made one thats 40+ inchs then it would be super fantastic imo... of the gm40 or the sf33

A further thought occurs to me and that is to have a word with Models By Design and see if he is prepared to mould a larger hull, deck, etc. as I am told that he does all his own moulding.  I'm sure that there would be plenty of interest.
It takes me a while to think these days, that is if I manage to think at all.   ;) {-)

I am going to Penryn (next door to Falmouth) for a week at the end of June so I will try to get some more photos of the 1:1 models.  I lived near Falmouth for a short time some years ago and know the area fairly well but I will have to dig out Cygnus's address.

I did email them some time back, to see if they could build a bigger one but the reply was no lol so i lost intrest in it, but sinse i saw the one in the model shop its kinda pushed me back into having ago with one, i think il wait till me dad gets back from class 1 then have a drive long to there shop/work shop and see what they say, might make them abit more keen to try if we went there and talked about it maybe  O0 though i guess at the end of the its harder to build something bigger, but if they could i would probs buy 2 of them ( one for me and one for my dad )

what id love would be something 40+ inchs i really dont mind even if it turned out to be 50inchs long not sure what scale that would be, but would be a stunning model at that size ( something that wont bob up n down to much ) nice and heavy and will go through a nice chop ( me and me dad both like big and heavy models )  {-)

all the best though and stunning pics of your boat

Does that mean the phone still rings?

yes TT,
well it did upto about a month ago, as I was trying to find some info on a fishing boat ( not a cygnus) that they had built the hull for about 15 years ago.
It did ring and asked to leave a message, but no one came back to me.
all assets and moulds have now been sold far and wide, some to scotland and others elsewhere, and nothing now remains down in the southwest, but as I said, the phone still rang out upto a month ago.
I stopped trying after no one came back to me.
cheers,neil.

Unfortunately the man who ran the firm died shortly after selling up which is why there will be no one answering the phone i'm afraid
