I purchased a Gemini Engine with boiler from a friend a few years ago that was in a new state. I have only run it once since then to show my Grandson it working.
Last month I was in a position to purchase a Der Seekadett kit still in the box at a good price.
I decided to try the engine but discovered that it had seized up the piston flywheel end. Not really knowing the layout of the engine, I stripped it down and freed the piston but I had removed the steam chest which afterwards found out that I did not have to do that and typical the valves dropped out and I lost the timing.
I have managed to get the engine running on a small compressor, not sure of the pressure cant be much above 10PSI,
but it will only run one way will not reverse if I move the lever over and try to turn it there seems pressure against it.
So can anyone please help Having not had any knowledge of steam engines I am at a loss.
Does the reversing lever face the same way as the engine is turning? I have to hold the lever otherwise it moves on its own to the centre postion, I cant remember if it was like that when I first tried it. If the engine is turned by the flywheel the lever moved the same direction, I was wondering if when trying to turn the engine when it was seized I have moved the eccentrics but they are pinned or the gearing somehow.
Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou
Duke
