Can anyone recommend a hi-torque but fast servo?
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:04:52 pm »

Hello all.

Been scanning the servo makers web sites, but having trouble finding what I want.

I'm looking for a hi-toque servo - preferably 15kg or more, that is also fast. Not too fussed if it's digital, but metal gears preferred.

Anywho know of a source? It would seem that you have to trade torque for speed, and I'm being greedy and wanting both..

Hello Steve,

Have a look at the Hitec HS 805BB, or the HS 815BB, both of them are VERY strong on 6 volts,
Depends on how fast  you need !!.

I can recomend HS 815bb. about 25kg on 6v.
about 30 quid, but it is significantly bigger than normal servo.

But if you want real speed you need to look at some of the futaba sail arm servos, but the fast ones are about 3-4 times the price.

Stavros:

I want to have a play with using dynamic counter-balancing. I have a couple of very shoddy foamglass hulls to play with. The idea is to mount a weight ( lets say 1/2kg ) on a springy bar that projects out of the top of the boat.  The deafult position is that the bar points forwards, towards the bow of the boat.

This is lnked to a a servo, which is then linked to a mixer, which mixes with the rudder.

When the boat goes into a sharp left turn, it naturally rolls over, increasing wetted surface. So if the bar swings out to the right. After some fiddling with the mixer, the boat then stays vertical and wetted area is reduced. Obviously adds more pressure to the rudder, but hey ho.

It'll look ugly, but it's only to test the concept. There is a "cunning plan" in the works, but need to test some idea's out first before I go off building a proper model and this is one of them.

Thanks to all for the advice. I will have a look at each of them.
