I am thinking about a Mount Fleet Models 'Sir Lancelot' for my next build. Would any of the Forum members care to voice an opinion on this kit. Would you also point me in the direction of any reviews that may have been published.

Paul,

If you enter Sir Lancelot into the Forum search box you will find there are several references to the kit including degree of difficulty. Should be of some help in making up your mind.

Mount Fleet kits all follow the same pattern of a fibre glass hull, pre-printed ply overlays, plywood and stripwood construction combined with fibre glass deck housings, white metal fittings and accesories.

Although I haven't made the Sir Lancelot I know the kit and know that the construction follows the same lines as all the other Mount Fleet kits so have a read of my own Ben Ain thread as well as Martins Puffer thread and, more recently the Danny Boy build described on here.  These will show you the technques required to put together a Mount Fleet kit and highlight some of the areas that you will have to put some thought into.

The Sir Lancelot kit itself is the same only more so.  It is actually a big kit at nearly 1.5 meters long with a high number of white metal fittings that will consume a lot of time to dress up but will produce a very realistic looking model.

I think narrowing your search down to builds of this particular kit in the last six months will mean that you miss out on  a lot of other valuable and relevent reference material on this forum and others out there so try to remain open minded and refer to all the usefull information available as well as any specific information you might be lucky enough to come across.

Thanks bunkerbarge for your comments, advice and references  . I have read on this forum and other sources that the hulls were frequently not up to scratch, mishapped and badly laid up and that some builders were binning many of the white metal parts as they were of poor quality, not comments that I would expect from a kit costing £525. One contributor did however say that he thought that the quality problems had been addressed in the recent past hence the my request for opinions based on kits purchased in the last six months.

Cheers
