I found my Acoms Techniplus 4 (which came second hand with a boat I bought) very unreliable and the range very poor so I sold it to a clubmember very cheaply, he said he wanted it for spare parts. Some time later I saw him using it and he said it worked fine once he changed it back to original crystals. I am sure he suspected that was the problem and got a cheap radio set but good on him for being smarter than me! I would be cautious after this experience with using crystals of other brands. I have read another post about the way different makes of crystals are "cut", whatever that means. Cheers, Ian.

I used to have an ACOMS 4 channel sold it due to the fact that it would only work on Gen acoms crystals,it would only work also with gen acoms recievers, range was NEVER an issue with it though

For best results always use your radio manufacturer's own brand crystals in both the Tx & Rx. Other brands may work but can cause problems.
