Freeship - anybody used it to make plans for a hull?
« on: October 08, 2008, 11:50:16 pm »

Hello!
I came across the hull design software Freeship. Looks pretty interesting but I couldn't find out if it offers the possibility of printing a plan of the hull with sections for the ribs/frames, to be used as templates for cutting.
Has anybody here used it for that purpose? If yes, how does one do it?

Hi,
have only started to evaluate this program, usually use others like Delftship, and Carlson Design (to which you can transfer data to) amongst others.
If you right click in the view with the sections in you can print out all the sections at once, just need to enter the scale you want. Check the help files for help in scaling to printer.
You can also generate flat plate profiles and print these out as well.
Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks. What's the menu command to generate flat plate profiles?

What do you think about Freeship as compared to Delftship and Carlson? Which is better?

The Freeship program was created by the originator of Deftship I believe, it just later transmuted into Delftship.

Freeship offered more options than the free version of Delftship - like plank development for instance, a very useful tool for us model builders.

I used to have the original until my old hard drive <*< ate itself. >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( {-)

Anyone have a safe link to the original freeship files?

Hi,
you can download most versions of Freeship here

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeship/files/

I also lost my original copy of Delftship when my hard drive quit, now cant generate plates.
Use both programs (Freeship & Delftship) and have just downloaded the latest freeship.
cheers
