Home made Prop Shaft
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:12:32 pm »

 :-) :-)I have been trying to search for some sort of chart that indicates what the OD of a road has to be in order to cut a thread for a Prop.
Is there such an animal?.

Example:- Prop with M4 thread. Is the OD of the road to be 4mm  or as I think, should it be something like 4.30mm in order to obtain a thread. Also due you use Brass or Mild Steel.

Would once again appreciate any help on this. Many thanks Ceres.

Try this chart Ceres;

By the way you cut a 4mm thread on a 4mm rod, you tap a 4mm thread in a 3.3mm hole   ;)

Use steel for the shaft, at least silver steel preferably stainless steel.

Best thing to do is find your local engineering supplies company and buy a copy of the ZEUS Tables. This little pocket book contains a wealth of very useful information.  8)
