Well... when I'm not working and not working on my giant HMS Hood, I'm a musician and composer. I have written orchestral pieces for Radio 4 drama and theatre and am writing my fourth album of self-penned songs. Check me out on... www.myspace.com/martinjohnhk
let me know what you think... but be gentle. %)

Martin, have you played at Fylde Folk, this or last September.I feel as though I have listened to your music before, or is it a premonition of things to come.
Could listen to your creations all day.
Your music Reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croche' whom I have admired and enjoyed for many years.
best wishes for the future. neil. :-))

Fylde is approx' seven miles East of Blackpool. They hold a folk festival there every year (usually around the end of August/early September).
Now apologies for busting up your thread for a moment, but if you don't mind, a quick question for nhp651.......

Mr. NHP, do you have Google Earth on your PC? If so, what are those two white circle thingies, just to the West of Wesham?
Co-ordinates are:

47' 17.08" x 55' 19"

I'm almost certain I've never played there... I think I've only been to Blackpool once or twice in my life so it wasn't me. O0

Since when were you building the Hood? Or have you decided that 4 funnels is 3 too many? BY.

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're saying... {:-{ The Hood had two funnels... so, while I don't wish to appear over-sensitive, are you trying to be funny?
I spent today fashioning the lever connectors that fix the bases of the bow and midships sections and installing the bolts that will keep it together above the waterline. This build by the way is at 1/35 scale making the completed ship 7.42m long. :-))

Hi PMK,
That is a bit of a mystery.
They were owned by North West Water and some say they were fresh water reserviors, and others say that they were subterranean gas tanks, but the concensus was Water res's.However, the areas were behind Hich chain link razer wire fences.
yes, Fylde Flk is a festival of contemporary and modern folk music that takes place in Fleetwood on the 1st weekend in September, and has been running for over 25 years.
some very big names in folk of all sorts, and well worth a visit.
Most of the venues are pubs of the locale with big concerts in the Marine Hall on Fleetwood promenade. :-))

Thanks, Mr. NHP.
For a moment I thought they might have been those polythene tunnels which they use for growing strawberries and suchlike. But the razor chain-link fencing would imply otherwise.
Seems I'm still none the wiser, but thanks again just the same.

Thanks to you too, MartinH for letting me hijack your thread.
Neat soundtrack BTW. I see you play guitar (according to the photo on the link). Is that you playing the keyboard on that track?

Thank you for your kind comment. I play all the instruments on all the tracks though I fudged a bit where the brass was concerned. My major instruments though are guitar, piano and drums. I did the backing vocals though on one of my tracks my daughter is also singing.  %%

That ship of yours........ 7.42 metres?? Man, that is HUGE!
By the by, I only got to hear that one track from the link. Being that you're a composer, I don't suppose you're into a spot of, say, 12-bar?
Do you do other compositions that might be a bit more 'up'?

Hey, Martin, would this be up your street?.............. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EucYNWiEsf8
(Extra rum, bum and baccy if you know who the original composer is).

Sounds like Quo to me...
The myspace site should have given you six songs... I'll up load a couple of faster ones in the near future.
Yes... the ship IS huge. There are times when I wish I'd never started! It has to be stressed like a proper boat but look like a model
More later. :-))

The YouTube question was aimed at the other Martin. But you're right... Quo it is.

I'll keep my ears open for those faster tunes. And also my eyes open for a couple photos of your ship (hint, hint!).

Re large Hood, we have built big before but this is a Monster. One of my mantras is that of an OMO
boat. One Man Operated, its up to you to get it to the water, its up to you to put it in the water &
its up to you to get it out again, then take it home. I hope you have a strong truss, methinks you will
need it. Have you worked out how much ballast it will take?. I made a vessel that took 7stone & at
that point I sold it on, best of luck

As its a boat in three parts... or... three boats that join together... I can lift each section. ok2 |I won't know how much ballast till I wet test her for the first time but I plan to use 50 gallon water tanks which I will empty and fill as needed. I've been shifting a 1400w PA plus for the last 20 years so shifting this monster will be a holiday by comparison.

I know what you mean on the  sound equipment. We normally use a 3000 watt system and during concerts we have a 25,000 watt system. It takes a crane to stack it all. I'm a bass player and vocalist. I recorded the show on March 7 and downloaded some sound files to the band and my site. http://www.myspace.com/kyova and http://www.myspace.com/joeebrown.

Mind you these are live recordings not studio cuts. We replaced our lead guitarist a couple of weeks ago so I'll be doing it some more when things get polished enough. Things were not going well with the last one.

I'll go have a listen when I finish for the day. These lead players are all the same... prima donnas!  >>:-( :embarrassed: I, too play lead but, after over 40 years playing, well... I came to lead playing late after studying guitar classically to grade 8, piano to grade 4, drums, brass and old Uncle Tom's cobblers and all, old Uncle Tom's cobblers and all! :D
I'll send you a friend request... it'll come in as 'Martin John'.
Cheers
