Sentinel & Valiant

I believe that the (HMRC or HMCC) Sentinel (a Model Slipways kit) and VALIANT are of the same class of boat.
Valiant used to work out of Plymouth some years ago. Can anyone confirm this and does anyone have pictures of VALIANT? I have lost the negatives that I had of Valiant transiting the lock gate at Plymouth

BJ, as far as I can discover, Sentinel and Valiant are different classes of Customs cutters. A photo of Valiant can be seen here http://www.seateamimages.com/102518.html, while a photo of Sentinel can be seen here http://clydesights.com/2008/05/hmcc-sentinel.html

I have built the Model Slipway Sentinel, and can thoroughly recommend the kit, it is excellent. Some photos attached.

I hope this answers your question.

Lovely job Peter, Slipway kits do make up into very smart models.

Thanks BB. It also performs very well too, the working stabilisers stop excessive heel in the turns. I would recommend Model Slipway kits to anyone, and Jackie and Lawrie White at MS are extremely helpful, too. The only reason I have not purchased another kit from them is the excessive cost of importing it into Australia - it costs well over A$200 to bring one in, with import duty and freight.  :((

That is a great shame.  I have an Envoy class tug and once again at the pond this morning spent quite some time explaining the workings of it to passers by as it always attracts admiring comments and interest.  It makes into a lovely model that handles well and looks the part on the water and my own experience with Slipway has always been very positive.

"Nellie" is an Island Class cutter, made by Vosper-Thorneycroft in 1992/3. My mate Chris Pratt was on the committee which decided on the purchase for HMC&E. He went on the be the first skipper and was also responsible for obtaining the plans and photos which spurred me into making the original plank-on-frame model. Then I met Lawrie and Jackie and the rest, as they say, is history.
Sentinel is a superb vessel for coastal duties but a bit too small for the sort of trans-Atlantic operations which are deemed necessary these days, so the Valiant and her sister ship (which I think is called Vigilant) were commissioned from Damens.
Since I retired from HMRC I have lost contact with Commander Pratt so I don't have any information other than a Damen publicity brochure with a few photos and some GA drawings at a very small scale.
Shame - I'd have liked to build one myself one day.

Thanks for the replies.
Pictures of Sentinel were no problem to find, it was Valiant that I could not trace. I knew Sentinel was an Island class boat but was not sure about Valiant.
However out of interest do see http://business.fortunecity.com/interest/803/marlib/ow/ow2001_01_78_stan_patrol_4100.htm -  Looks like a modified version of Valiant. There is a reference on the page to Rys. Damen Shipyards.  (Anyone translate?Russian?)
