You are mistaking the COSTS of a model instead of what it is worth.
It is worth what someone will pay for it.

Bob
But if you want the model then either you pay what it COSTS or it simply won't be available. If no one will pay the £250 for a ready built Airfix Spitfire then the numbers on sale will be tiny as it's not worth producing (I know there are probably some on eBay but these guys aren't selling them to make a living). Much of the cheap manufacturing we enjoy from China only exists because it's a country where you can survive on an income that would have you starving in the UK.

Quite right if you are buying commercially or commissioning from a modelmaker. But whenyou come to sell it, as Bob says, it's worth what someone else will pay for it - and that could be a lot less.

I'm not disagreeing with this BUT it depends on why you want the vaulation. The original question involved comissioning a model - then you need to know what it will cost which is the big figure. Likewise if you need an insurance vaule this should be done at the cost of replacement - which is the amount you would have to hand over in cash to get an exact replacement. If done correctly this is the big number again - cost of model plus building by a professional. As someone who has to quote this sort of figure for model railway exhibitions and once had to make a claim, this is what the Insurance companies are expecting.

In the end it depends on whether you want to buy what is available (cheap) or what you want (in this case, expensive).

Here are some drawings that I found that will allow you to build the bow for the Bourbon Orca or any of the others of the same design.

Duane,

Where did you get those Orca lines from? I have searched high and low for some and failed! I have now designed my own version which is remarkably similar to those lines.

The Orca is my next project, hope to start quite soon.
