hi all. Was out in town with the girl friend and she want to go to the fabric shop to get some bit and bobs. In i went and found some nice bits that can be used on model boats. There were 3 items i saw and though oooh mmm i wonder so i bought them.
1. bobbins for sewing machines. It was 97p for 3. These would make good cable drums. They come in steel or clear plastic that can be painted.
2. Eyelets 3p each these were the smallest they had but they could be used on a large scale boat in the bulwark were rope pass through.
3. Cord 8p per meter up £1.20 per meter depends on thickness. The stuff i got was 8 p per meter. It can be used for tug tow lines or mooring lines etc. Has a nice scale look to it.

Ecellent bit of scouting John well done , those drums will look fine loaded with cord .
I am allways rummaging through the haberdashery in the local Boyes store , it's amazing what you can find.

I used the metal bobbins on my 'Lulonga'. I've also used brass eyelets for portholes.

haberdashery and Fishing Tackle shops are all good sources. we have a haberdashery in Staines which is also a internet cafe great place
to while away some time. obtained the railing ropes for the lifeboat there which is in fact elastic which combined with some rubber
swivel covers from the tackle shop to hold them in place. the elastic stays taught and grips the swivel covers which are also rubber
no gluing great for removing for repairs and so forth. all you have to do is convince the wife your going into the haberdashery shop
for boat bits .
