Wicked, this is what I wanted to hear. My supply of walnut planks was free so I need to get the best out of it. By the sound of what you have said I can rough out my strips on the band saw to 1.5 mm thickness and then finish them to 1mm with the thicknesser.
For the benefit of other users so far I have bought the MF70 Milling Machine, KS230 Table Saw, DS 230/E scroll Saw,DB250 lathe and MT300 shaper with relevant chucks and tooling. These tools are superb.
As an exercise I turned a 1cm capstain and handles. I used the MF70 with the dividing head mounted vertically to cut 6 faces and 1mm slots for the handles.
I am very impressed with the accuracy and finish of these machines. I reckon my next step is to get the CNC equipment for the MF70 which I hope to run from my Acer Aspire One Netbook. There are some good vids on youtube showing the CNC.
I reckon it will create some great ships in bottles.

Hi Derek
I have a thicknesser from proxxon and it is a wonderfull tool.
As supplied it will go down to 1mm and is very accurate it can be adjusted to very close measurements.
I also due to the safety stop at 1mm to stop you digging into the bed I have a 1/2mm sheet of plasticard/styrene
that I can put on the bed (T Bar under to stop it going through) and now can use it down to 1/2mm.
Even at 1/2mm gives a wonderfull finnish.
Note Tend nowdays to buy sheet material 3 or 4 ins wide of various thicknesses and cut to width
