1.2m Motor Yacht

It was a very hard decision to make but I made it anyway, the next project .......... I selected my 1222mm x 320mm motor yacht that yet again I purchased off that famous internet auction site! On removing the upper housing I found two wires and wasn't too sure of what would work so I connected an old 6V SLA battery to the wires hanging out and hey presto the radar turned and the external and internal lights worked !! I have made a temporary stand to help work on her and started to remove handrails etc and am now looking at possibly re-decking or planking the boat as the original deck is very thin in places. I will keep posting a 'build log' as I progress. here are a few photos from when I started today. Cheers, Dan.

The motor looks like a car fan heater motor from a Ford - 12v dc.
Your purchase looks more than reasonable and will look great following a bit of a clean-up.

The motor is a Ford Cortina blower motor.
It runs about 5000 rpm and can take large prop with ease.
1 point to watch though is the armature shaft is mounted in 2 hemispherical bearings, these need oiled/greased occasionally for optimum performance.
Do NOT use anything like WD40 on them.

Try the original motor with a drop of 3-in-1 oil over the bearings and left overnight.
These motors are superb in model boats.
I put 2 in a huge tug and had to go down to 6 volts and that was pushing 50mm 5 blade props. She was planing!!

Dan.
It depends how fast you want her to go.
She wont ever be a fast electric, try her on 6 volts and if too slow go to 12.

Dan what speed controller are you using?
It might be more efficient to just go for the 12 volts and use the ESC to keep speed down IF she is too fast for you.
That way you can ballast her and get her set up without having to change anything later.

Yes it should be.
It all depends what performance you want out of her.
The motor SHOULD pull a max about 11 amps ish so the ESC is well within its range, but fit a 15 amp fuse to be on the safe side.

To be sure she will perform as you want I would give her a trial after sitting her in the bath for an hour to check watertight integrity.
If you want to increase the performance there are ways to do this but the original set up will give you a good starting point.

You know that fibreglass hull looks awfully like the 49" Precedent Perkasa hull - or am I just being silly?

With the photo taken from the bow - and now the three rudder posts - I'm sure it's the Perkasa hull, I have one in my garage with just a deck on it....

Looks like this will be a very nice model once you've rebuilt it! The overall design is very elegant even if the original model is a bit basic in terms of detail and finish.
Didn't Graupner produce a kit for a rather similar-looking motor yacht? It's certainly a very creative use of a Perkasa MTB hull.
