WOT Thicknesser???

Well I really don't know what root to take here. I want a thicknesser to be able to create my own veneers of 1mm-3mm in .5mm stages. For example I would like to make planks out of loads of 1"*6" planks. So I would rough out say 2-3mm*1" strips on my band saw and then run it through the thicknesser to get down to 1mm*1". I could then run the strips through my proxxon table saw to get 3mm*1mm planks. I would also like to run some of my existing balsa stock that is 4" by 1/8" down to 2mm thick.
So down to the thicknesser. The proxxon is no doubt accurate, but expensive for what it is and only allows a width of 3ins. So I spotted this one the SIP01497
http://www.sipuk.co.uk/tools/info_SIP01497.html
. Does anyone know if SIP or similar will do the job as I require or is it only the proxxon that accurate enough?

The SIP looks as if it more for furniture/light building work and made down to that price listed, I have heard good reports regarding the Proxxon which is custom made for precision modelling work.

Have you considered, except for the 4in width, an ordinary hand electric planer with spacers taped to the sole plate?

A planer/thicknesser might be too powerful for that sort of dimension. Commercially, balsa sheet is sanded to final thickness after roughing on a bandsaw with roller feed. Have you thought about using a belt sander instead?
Suit yourself.
