ok how many are into rallys I am in a big way and at the present building a Corsa to do some road events this year

  Used to do rallying her in Canada years ago. I still like the sport, but its not as popular here as in Europe and Britain. Was pit crew for two cars back in the seventies.

not me but my two sons, mad on mk2 escorts , here in jersey only one road rally per year, also hill climbs,  my son built his car from scratch with cosworth 2.2 lt  engine,

I never did any rallying but I did spanner for a friend with a Mk1 Escort, changing gearboxes whilst lying in a muddy puddle in the middle of winter isn't my idea of fun.
I did do autograss racing for a few years had a couple of 1300cc Minis and a space frame special with a Fiat 2000cc twin cam engine (stage 3 head, Piper 300 cams, twin 48mm Weber DCOE carbs)  mounted onto a Renault 25 gearbox. It was a bit of an animal but was alot of fun to drive usually sideways or upside down.

Started rallying many years ago in the Mexico Challenge. Now into Historic road rallies, had to sell my last car, A35, last year due to redundancy but I hope to get going again when funds allow !!

Couple of pictures, 1962 Sunbeam Rapier on the Winter Challenge from Brooklands to Cannes and the A35 with my daughter navigating on the Harvest Tour.

Found out recently on another thread that both Bryan Young and I started motoring with early 60's Sunbeam Rapier coupes, both white with pale blue tops and I jokingly remarked that maybe that was the only colour they made, same same Henry Fords black. Now Tester's picture is another identical Rapier - anyone recall any in a different colour or was the joke for real ?  O0

Actually LJ was Dove Grey all over with no contrasting top.

We did a repaint for the Tour Auto...

Thanks for that Tester, in the first pic it looked like a different shade of paint, off by the bonnet/door top line. Time for another visit to the opticians maybe ! Anyway it answered my query about different paint jobs thanks

Just lucky with the allocations I guess..... certainly not requested as I'm not sure the organisers would bother unless there was a good reason.

Even the works cars didn't have a standard colour scheme like the works Minis etc, they seemed to use any colour the base car was and build it from there, although I've never seen a single colour works car

Rallycars, a cheap hobby :o had a few escorts,  sunbeams and a chevete or two :} crashed the ones I finished and worked on loads for friends. done road-rallies, stage rallies (forrest & tar, well some were {-)) driving & mostly navigating, amusingly the only awards I have had were navigating in a 1300cc mk2 Escort but it is great beating larger / more powerfull cars with a 32 year old 1300 Escort that has been rallying for the last 24 years :D

amongst other things that I am trying to do, I have a 1965 mg midget that I am shoe-horning a vauxhall xe 2l 16v engine & ford gearbox into, was quick with the 1275 that was in it before  :embarrassed:

Too many hobbies, not enough time and money <:(

I am looking at using an anglia axle as it is a bit stronger than the midge / minor etc. one, also there are lots of ratio's & lsd's available and a h/d half-shaft conversion 8)

might cope with the standard xe (on carbs 150 bhp aprox) driven mildly :embarrassed: (maybe NOT a good idea to use the dry-sumped xe that is hidden the garage....)

just got to finish the garage so I can get on with it :embarrassed:

Started with a MKII Escort, and slowly worked my way through around 300 of them, I kid you not :o It got to the stage where I was breaking two a week to supply bits as a Motorsport business, so some hobby that turned out to be. My car gradually evolved into a bloody quicktarmac weopan, with us picking events we fancied. Had a great, and very expensive 5 years or so. Moved onto Caterhams, various RS's, and a GT40. Rallying, ie the RAC gets the level of spectators F1 can only dream of, but little tv coverage. Shame that >:-o

A good XE shouldl give you round 150 bhp with no mods, just a good service ,thats if you run the injection , once on something like bike carbs with good manifolds you can get close on 200 qute easily ,mine has 185 on injection by changing the camshafts and remapping the ecu. 
Couldnt you try and fit a c20let in there its the same size engine with a turbo..., 205bhp standard, change the chip set and up the fuel pressure and you can get 280-300bhp with no other mods at all
