frustrated with electronics
« on: March 06, 2009, 08:24:12 pm »

Right,

If FLJ can help, great. But I would I would appreciate help from any quarter.
What I have is as follows:
Torpedo 500 2.3:1 motor.
Action P81 Condor 5 AMP esc. Fuse on/off switch
7.2v 3700 NiMH pack with Tamiya connection.
The radio is a Zebra (cost decides the choice) 3FM 3CH 40 whatsit with two receivers, bought from Cornwall Model Boats with RX etc.

The on/off switch supplied by Zebra has three double leads - all red+black and white out coming of it.
All wires are red/black and white except for the insert into the receiver box which are then red and black.
On the off switch end, one double lead should go to the battery pack, plus this side also has a connection that would seem to go to the receiver -" battery insert". There is also one at the ON side, again red/black. This one appears to be wired up as a battery lead. This is one of my proplems - why does it show a second lead into the receiver when it already has one that goes into it? Two wires into it. Again red and black.
What goes where as the instructions only show one red/black lead to plug into the RX? I have two!!!!!!
I hope photos if they help.
I have absolutely no power coming through. Not a tickle! Not a sausage. Blugger all!!
I have tried different settings though I may of missed one. The instructions say plug in the connections and if it does not work, pull out and try in a different socket. Great, but which ruddy one? I have tried, as far as I can, all permutations with no success.
Someone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said that all wires are red/black and white. I lied. The motor I had to get wired at work. This is the only thing that does niot have the other coloured wires in/on it.

I hope!

Ron
Ignore the second wire that is on your on/off switch (batt end).
Plug the single wire coming out of switch into bottom socket of rx.(black wire towards edge of rx)
That will give you power to rx
Mark
Ring me if you need help

I think the "spare" lead off the switch is to link to a rx battery charger, if you use a rechargeable rx pack. It means you can charge the rx pack without removing it from the model. When the power to the rx is "off" the charger wires should be connected to the battery.

Ron
This is a 5 channel receiver, with the sets of three pins numbered as if you were using a five-channel transmitter. You aren't (helpful, huh?).
As Toby says, ignore the pair of wires which emerge from the switch on the same side as the socket into which you have already connected the battery box. These are indeed to facilitate charging if you have fitted rechargeable cells. You haven't.
The "lone" pair of wires from the switch case fit into the bottom set of pins on the receiver - usually labelled Batt or similar. The black wire in this pair fits closest to the edge of the case. The other sets of pins in the receiver are labelled CH1 - CH5.
Ignore the speed controller for a minute i.e. don't plug it into anything yet. Plug the servo onto the pins marked CH1, with the black lead to the edge of the case. Switch on the transmitter and then the receiver. Now waggle the RH transmitter stick and see if the servo moves. It usually corresponds to CH1 on the receiver, but I've not handled this particular type and so it may not. If it does, then try it in CH2 and see if it now moves when you waggle the LH stick. It should.
If not, continue trying the servo when plugged onto the different sets of pins until you know which set corresponds to which stick on the tranny.
Now switch everything off and connect the steering servo into the "RH stick channel" and the speed controller into the "LH stick channel".
Make sure that the fuse is sitting firmly in the fuse holder - sometimes these holders need a bit of a squeeze to close the gap in the metal socket inserts - and that the fuse is intact. Now check your wiring AGAIN (it looks OK to me from the photos).
Switch on and play.

All.

Thanks for your replies.
I am afraid that that post of mine was a bit cr#p to say the least!!
Lets put it this way;  I am not used to the old amber liquid nowadays and I have still got a titchy bit of a headache two days after having a had couple, (or maybe a few) on the Friday evening.
I am a little bit annoyed with myself for having them and not thinking about what I had put on.
Still, we can't all be perfect.

Cheers all. (If thats the right term to use!!!!!)

Ron.

PS. Works a treat.

NO;NO;NO.....Liquid medicine is dangerous......read on..

Discovered Property……

For those of you not from a policing background let me explain that one of the duties performed by our boys in blue is the retention and ultimate disposal of illicit products. Now read on…….

There were 18 bottles of whisky in the property store. It seemed too good to be true. The sergeant said that I was to throw them down the sink, or else!
I drew the cork from the first bottle and I poured the whisky down the sink, with the exception of one glass, which I drank. I extracted the cork from the second bottle and repeated the process, with the exception of one glass, which I drank. I then withdrew the cork from the third bottle and poured the whisky down the sink, which I drank. I pulled the cork from the fourth bottle down the sink, and poured the bottle down the glass, which I drank. I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next, and drank one sink out of it, then threw the rest down the glass. I pulled the sink out of the next glass, and poured the cork down the bottle. Then I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink, and drank the pour. When I had everything emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, counted the glasses, corks, bottles and sinks with the other, which were twenty-nine, and as the house came by, I drank it, counted them all until I finally had all the house in one bottle, which I drank.

Incidentally, I’m not under the influence of incohol as some thinkle peep I am. I’m not half as thunk as you might drink. I fool so feelish I don’t know who is me, and the drunker I stand here the longer I’ll get.

Oh my heady blood.

Roll on seven!!!

Not any more, old thing. Practise Nurse Glenda Hitler has put a stop to that little game. She's even got me yomping round the block twice a day!
It's probably the case that you don't actually live any longer doing all these wholesome things - it just seems  like it's longer............

Ah, me - anything for a quiet life.
