Plastic Motorflote?
« on: April 01, 2009, 07:08:15 pm »

Do you fellas reckon a Motorflote could be constructed out of 80thou styrene sheet over a frame of plastic rod? In other words, just subsistute plastic sheet for balsa/ply sheet and subsistute plastic rod for balsa?

What do you reckon? I hate working with wood, I can't even draw a straight line on the stuff, let alone cut one...

Hi Rich,

Yes you can build her that way, many years ago Dave Metcalfe made a pusher tug called Egrete this way, a free plan feature in model boats  and i know a few people who built her with no problems.

Just use plenty of chopped up styrene reinforced liquid cement for the joints and be patient for a strong bond to happen, this is the model version of a welded plate steel hull !!

And before you ask i am getting A ROUND to it !! Just finished the new workshop .......at last

Kind regards

Ian

If I ever become a mod I'm going to start off by sticking a ban on every word relating to *not straight*
