I rang my insurance co today to get renewal quote.
They said £160,up from £98 last year,so i went to compare the market.com.
Lo and behold they quoted £93 and with the same insurance company.

My wife has her Corsa insured through Saga, fully comp and it costs her £12 per month.

I only go for third party fire and theft,no add on like recovery,no claims bonus etc.
And if you pay monthly,it can double,as it is a loan scheme

Just renewed my motor insurance...... fully comprehensive, free recovery in UK and Europe, free legal whotsits and all the bells and whistles....... £49 YES £49!

Mind you, it is for a 1933 Austin Seven, with a top speed down hill of 40mph. Off to tax it now - £0!

£95 for my 1964 MG Midget - I was robbed!

£224 for a Vauxhall 2.2 Omega estate CD AUTO with Admiral, car is 9 years old, done 103 thousand miles, I drive about 12 thousand a year, no small print, more cover and goodies than a certain insurer on another thread.
 Norwich union wanted almost 800 quid for the same cover without the goodies.

 My son was quoted by the said company above having just passed his test on my insurance almost 3 grand a year fully comp for my P reg 1100 Corsa, Admiral 900, no catches.

 PS Excess is 300 quid, beat that for what we have. My son is 20 this year and been driving for two years, passed his test in October no claims anywhere!

I suspect that many companies have very low first-year premiums to attract "new" customers, then they wallop on the cost for second and subsequent years in the hope that you'll be too lazy to bother checking around. The comparison website didn't know that you already insure with this company so you got the loss-leader price. I had the same experience with home building and contents insurance.

On a similar tack, we recently approached the bank that we use for most of our personal money as they were offering an attractive interest rate on an ISA for next year. We were not allowed, under the terms and conditions, to fund this ISA from any other of our accounts with this bank i.e. they wanted "new" money, so the lass behind the counter actually advised us to "launder" £3,600 from our current account via our business account (held with another bank) and thence back into the new ISA!

Makes you wonder if the dirty tricks really have stopped...........

If you own a business, or you in any way could be considered to use your vehicle for business purposes (even if it is only taking a box to the PO), be careful with insurers.
