EX O.M.R.A hull
« on: May 18, 2009, 01:16:21 pm »

Hi All
Does any of omra members or anyone else recognise this hull? Picked it up used it was in the old Porsche Golf (le,mans) raceing livery.
Shes 35in x 13in & heavy layup.
Any ideas ?
Cheers
John

It's a Hellfire, as raced by Keith Weller, As soon as i can get the scanner to work I'll post a pic.

I don't know the details of who made it and when, but in the Model Boats it is featured  in, it is said to be new, in the May 2007 issue.

It was a Z Class boat, so you can either enter it in Z Class with a .12 engine, or I believe it should be able to take a .21, maybe even a geared one.

Sorry, the scanner has packed up, so I've had to photograph the article, picture quality is not too good...

It does bear a resemblance to a Hellfire, but I suspect it's not. Being 35in x 13in, it is not likely to have been intended as a Z class boat. To the best of my knowledge, all of the hulls raced by the Paul and Keith Weller are made by them, and it could well be one of theirs. If it is, I would guess that it was probably one of their AA class hulls - maybe a Deliverer.

I will see if I can find out any more.

Thats what got it for me, also the text in the mag says they only had one lid for the race, and this one is missing a lid, also, the handle is the same :-))

It certainly looks like one of Paul's boats, although not the Deliverer (only 1 strake).
Andy may be right as the 13" width would only be about 9" as it's a "bat boat".

Hi Guys And thanks for the info so far  :-)) i pick up the hull in a Portsmouth model shop there were two hulls for sale both the in same livery (Golf fuel)

Heres the other one 30in x 8in subdrive. Being i am only geared up for brushless/lipo & do not race (only to kill most r.t.r,s ok2) the big hull will have to wait until funds allow for nitro/spark :-)

It's a fair cop. I saw 35" x 13", and thought it's too long and too wide to be a Z boat - most Z boats being no longer than 30". That was without looking at the photos. The wings and the large step being the significant features......
Humble pie being eaten as I type........

John, If your mentor is the same Mr Bird as I'm thinking of, you're talking to the right person.

The second boat has now had all the holes sealed, repainted, and motor, electrics etc put in.
Nearly emptied bath on test run.
Will have proper test on water tomorrow, but need to find what is best prop, battery and motor combo for this.
No petrol or nitro as they are silly money.
Suggestions for fast electric motor (non brushless and prop welcome)

I like to think of it as semi retirement (out to grass) for the ex O.M.R.A hulls :-)  They have had their glory days now they can take it easy on leccy power. Better than being stuck in a loft or in a skip :D :-)

I do like that idea, sounds nicer than 'I don't like IC so I'm going to electrify it' ;)

The electric hydros are now going faster than the IC's Proteus but that doesn't matter.

Not sure if this one still holds the record, but it wouldn't surprise me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR-6dwFVlLs

Anyone else prefer this one ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2sjy0vddQk&feature=related

I think it's 140 for electric and 129 for IC, but to be honest I prefer looking at an IC engine to running anything electric. I still don't see the attraction in putting a demented egg whisk into a hull...

Its not that i dislike ic,would do it if the cost was cheaper, but i already have the egg whisk bits availiable.
And its a happy retirement for the boat after what you animals put them through  :-))

Go electric and get someone to run a petrol strimmer next to you, then you  have  FAST and Noise, Oh and they start themselves
