Right then this is simple
1st stop HALFORDS
Primer the one that says on the tin for plastic bumpers
Tack cloths,
240 and 800 grit wet and dry,
Colours of your choice if a solid colour then you do not need lacquer if metallic you do.
2nd do you know anyone that works in a body shop if not you will have to buy 5ltrs of SPIRIT or Panel wipe(both the same) from a motor factors
What to do with that little lot
1 wash hull down with panel wipe nothing else
2 Rub hull down wet with 240 grit....wash the hull down yet again with panel wipe
3 3to 4 coats of primer ..let it dry thouroughly
4 Give it a guide coat of Matt black......when I mean a guide coat what it is is a fine mist to cover the hull so you can see where you have rubbed down
5 Rub the hull down with 800 grit and dry thoughreley wash with panel wipe..........if you can leave it in the airing cupboard overnight....this is to allow all the moisture trapped in the primer to evaporate of if you are feeling brave dry it with a hot air gun...........ECK DONT IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE
6 wash with panel wipe Apply paint
Panel wipe is a degreaser and it does not matter if you handle the hull with greasy fingers as you can cleanse it with this stuff prior to painting
Now if you need to mask for a second colour do ti the simple way use a good quality and I don't mean the 50p market stall type of insulation tape as the straight edge for the second colour, apply masking tape to about 3mm of the edge of the insulation tape and mask the rest of the hull off.Now they reason for the insulation tape is simple it is to stop the second colour bleeding into the first. Many will tell you to use Tam-ya fine line tape.....dammed expensive compared to a roll of insulation tape. When you have applied the second colour and it has semi dried after about 15Min's take off the masking obviously being carefull....now the clever but hold the hull in one hand making sure you have clean hands run your finger QUICKLY appling light pressure along the hard edge of the second colour and it will get rid of the hard edge.
NOW the really cleaver stuff blending paints
If you really want to be flash then I am afraid you have to be really brave multi coloured effects can be achieved with an aerosol but as I said you have to be brave right then how........ Apply first colour apply second creating a blending effect on the edge of the first whilst it is still dry and if a flashy so and so apply different colour as well BUT to blend the paint has to be WET.What this will do in effect is bleed the colours together creating a rainbow effect and if done right looks the xxxxxxxxxxx done wrong then sorry but start again!!!!!!!! To finish off this effect then apply lacquer ...more the better
Any questions then just ask.
What I have just posted is the right way to do things as 25+yrs of painting well I think I should know a thing or two about painting
