New Marine 2.4Ghz sets from Spektrum
« on: July 27, 2009, 11:10:44 am »

Skimming through eBay, I saw a new Spektrum Marine receiver, MR3000 I think, claiming to be the first 2.4 designed for marine use. It implied that there was also a 3 channel marine Tx to match - does anyone know anything about this?

I think Spektrum mean that the new waterproof receiver is compatible with existing 3-channel sets?

Yes - although they mention a Dx3S Tx with 'Marine Sticker', but it doesn't appear to be listed on their site {:-{

I saw something about this on another site a few months ago.

The conclusion was.
Too pricey for what it is, the price must come down.

the point about these 2.4 Ghz sets is that you don't need crystals and each TX and RX are bound together as a unique pair, so lots of people can sail at the same time with no interference. I think they "frequency hop" like the military radios. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Hi I know the general talk on this has ceased but if of interest I have just received TWO 4 channel TXs and FOUR 6 channel Rxs 2.4G from "Hobbyking" in the US for an all up landed cost here in NZ of $160 (~50 UK pounds) Delivery from order was 6 days.
thats fairly impressive
hope they work as well?

Ray, were these Spektrum (and if so what models) or some other brand? Ian.

No these were Hobbykings own label NOT Spectrum which I understand are much more expensive and maybe more sophisticated. If you review the RC Model forum pages (not Model Boat mahem) you will find a lot of comments. but the short of it that guys who previously were  wary of using them in their expensive aircraft now seem to be using them unreservedly.
They are also I believe (from the RC forum) the same as another label but they all come out of China my mailing to NZ was from Hong Kong.
Last weekend I gave three set a run on my boats at a two day regatta without problem. Monday I ordered one of their 6 channel units at $37US and was advised this morning that it is on its way. Expect to see it by weekend. Site is www.hobbycity.com if interested further.

Rather poor Ian unfortunately as far as ship modelers were concerned. If it was not for the Auckland boys each day it would have been a disaster. No cambridge boats at all. Rob has been crook so he was to busy organising he did not get his own boats sorted.
