Greetings from the Fatherland
« on: August 24, 2009, 08:28:49 am »

A hearty "Good morning" to y'all from Germany!
I stumbled across your community when searching the web for informations on a specific tug and did like what I saw - so here I am  O0

For the statistics:
The name's Tom - as you might have guessed already.
I'm 49 years of age and live near Paderborn, Germany (for those of you who served in the army, "Sennelager" might have a familiar ring...)
By profession I'm a CAD engineer (car suspension development) but what might be more of interest to you is certainly my modeling history.
Back in 1999 I started model boating, fast electrics to be precise. I participated in the MPBA 1999, 2000 and 2001 (lived in Coventry at that time) before returning to Germany. Unfortunately over here competitive racing is a sad joke compared to the UK championship so my interest moved from fast electric boating (whom do you want to race - yourself? You're bound to lose, then!) to something more moderate and I started learning to use wind engines (Graupner MicroMagic plus - lately- a Robbe Windstar) and am now digging out some of the scale models and hulls I had previously snatched up - you know the "offers one can't refuse", especially at shows like Blackpool, RAF Halton etc. - don't you?

I think that's it for here and now - more to come on specific topics!

Looking forward to a good time with y'all...
Tom

Welcome to the Mayhem Madhouse Tom,I,know the area where you live as i frequently passed by on my way to visit my son,who was stationed in Hameln, and him being in the British army was quite unique,as his grandfather, was in the German army and wore a  helmet with the runes,on it, during WW11,

*waves to the assembled crowd*
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Nope, it's definitely not going to be a "Springer", sorry  8)

Currently a couple of "construction sites" fight for their time slice:

  • evolution hull for the Robbe Katja which in out-of-the-box-condition has a nasty hollow just forward of the transom and thus never runs free. Made a unique plug with the hollow straightened out, sharpened edges and added stringers/spray rails so the hull will generate more lift. Needs its final finish before painting and forming the GRP negative form.
  • lightweight fully enclosed top with sealable access hatch for the Katja project to allow for self-righting
  • Edwardian electric river launch based on hull Der Seekadett, will be christened "River Faerie", pics here and here
  • 72' Whaleback motor gun boat (Dean's Marine) awaiting deck and superstructure finish
  • Preliminary data collection for making something nice and powerful from a MMM Nangee hull
