Prop shafts & A frames etc.
« on: September 15, 2009, 07:43:20 pm »

Hello, I was wondering is it possible to buy the bushes from the ends of propshaft tubes anywhere please? They are the slimline tubes about ¼" diameter.
I tried to remove one but it proved very difficult and ended up squashed >>:-(
I am trying to make a pair of A frames , so need to make 2 short prop tubes with bushes each end and about ½" long, I have cut the end off a long tube so have a piece with one bush already in , however it would need one at each end for support.
I got some 4mm plain SS rod for the shafts but I don't know if I can thread this at home, so will get some brass instead.
Any advice appreciated. :}

thanks,
Ed.  :-))

re the a frame, you dont really need a tube with two bushes for this, just use a single bush, say 10mm long with the support metalwork soldered onto it. This is something I have done a number of times with success.
I used phosphor bronze for the bushes and silver steel for the shafts. Pb bronze lubricates ok with water.
