Model OO Gauge Trains
« on: October 03, 2009, 02:23:25 pm »

In my spare time when i'm not building boats i do some private model train work. My area of interest is diesel engines, old and new. specialise in.

Nice work on the weathering. I used to custom paint for people, however, most wanted them pristine. Not quite as effective but thats what the customer wanted. I like the highlights on the coal.
I do mostly On30 narrow gauge micro layouts now. Here are a couple of shots of the last one I built. The HO brass CNR 6204 is the last steam I painted about a year ago. Again its pristine as the customer wanted. My eyes aren't what they used to be for this small stuff anymore.

Let this be clear!

I started this thread so as to show other interests of mine, nothing more than that! I included in my first post that i do "Private" work, that ONLY includes friends and family and i don't make a living out of it! No websites nor contact info were posted and i completely disagree to why this thread was "Moderated"

Voyager,

I totally agree, and I do think that there should be an explanation as to why people have their posts moderated if the contributer believes nothing wrong was included.

Back to the subject. Those are a credit to you and well done. :-))
Gives me ideas for weathering a couple of my boats. As Oldiron says, not really effective being pristine.

Cheers,

Ron.

What's the best was to reproduce coal, I'll need some for my 1:48 coal boat I'm on with?

You don't always have to use coal as such, i don't always. You can buy some small sharp stones and glue them into position, once dried throughly you can paint them satin black and then when all dry you can dry brush silver over the top. I did exactly this in my above pic.

Can anyone help me to help an old friend with his many train layouts, please

I know nothing about model trains so I'm unable to help him in his quest for a Diesel HORN sound generator.  (They all do sound different as well !!  so I am told)

He says he isn't into DCC  (electronics?) and would like to hear the horn sound from under the layout, when he presses a button. He has tried tape recorders but really wants sound on demand. (anything in the pipeline FLJ?)   %)

Any comments would be appreciated. I've seen his layouts and there are five in different rooms. Yes, he does live on his own.  A veritable train heaven. Almost got me interested but I've got enough on my plate, keeping my boats afloat.  ok2

Web site info would very helpful as I've tried and got confused with the steep learning curve.

Thanks everyone.

Ken

Thank you Dicky. The item looks the type of thing he was looking for. Whether the sounds are right, I don't know.

My friend was talking about the sounds they make and I didn't know there was so much to it. Like the boating hobby I suppose. He did specify the Diesel two tone horn of a certain class of loco, but I found it difficult to follow. ( my slow 'learning curve' )

Keep em coming chaps.  O0

FLJ's new sound unit would do it, you can download any sound you want via a usb cable from your PC / Laptop.  :-))

Hi Phil

This is the right idea. I've been spending 'boating time' looking at train sounds. There are thousands on the web. I've even downloaded some and listened to them in Wav files, but they are usually part of a sequence including the noises of the train going past. Clackity clack of the wheels and all that.

What is needed is a 'PIC' recorder such as you suggest, to pick off the actual sound bite needed and connected to a push button for instant playback.

Merry Christmas, relax and get  'Steamed up'  in a different way.  :}

Got my wife an OO scale hornby royal scot class loco (Inneskillen Rifles) with 3 orient express carriages as her Crimbo pressie. Carriages have lights in them that come on when the train moves. Should have got the DCC version but bought the wrong one  :((

Oh well, will have to get a decoder and fit it myself!

Have some layout designing softeware and Im trying to come up with an interesting layour for the spare garage.
