With the demise of Cheddar models a couple of year's ago, and what seems like the truthful fact that Stuart Turner is NOT going to continue manufacture of any of the marine plants, which they promised would be be continued, it would seem that the only suppliers left are ACS (with their 'Puffin' copy), JMC and Anton (in France), and Reiger (in Germany).
However, John Hemmens, although he doesn't advertise as he used to, is still in operation, and not as some may think retired.
Personally I find his boilers the finest that money can buy, and the verticals fabulously detailed and finished if used in an open launch, and his 'Richmond' V twin engine has just been tested as plant for my 65 inch steam yacht, and has proved adequatly powerful for the job.
He can be reached on e-mail:
[email protected]. and his website, which at present is being updated, will again be:
www.steamengines.co.uk. Also, with the 'Lady Jane' and 'Chimera' kits ,(now ready as all wood kits, rather than grp hulls which lower the ultimate value of a finished model), he will be taking out a full page announcement in Model Boats early in 2007.
