Lighting 'how to do it'...
« on: October 27, 2009, 08:36:06 pm »

OK men, thinking caps on. Ready? Here we go then...

In the pic you will see the bows of Deep Quest, and the two viewing ports....I need to get some form of lighting to shine through the ports, be visible to a depth of five feet or so, to be able to run off the rx battery pack (4 x 2900a/hr nicads) without draining it too hard and to be able to be switched on/off from a servo controlled microswitch.

Suggestions or ideas (in plain English please....no techie stuff   %% ) will be gratefully received.

Oh...and it needs  to be 100% waterproof as it's in the free flood area of the hull.

Ultra bright LEDs within the hull and fibre optics in the free flood area.

Yup that's the answer.    The biggest fibre optic strand you can get.   Component shop had 1.5mm when I last looked.   Make a tube of bacofoil wrapped round the LED and then crimp it round the fibre with the end held in contact with the LED.   a spot of thin superglue will hold it all together.

forget the microswitch thing, just use one of these plugged in the rx, then operate from a spare channel on your tx, I use these to operate lights etc, very handy little gadgets

Thanks chaps, excellent ideas...Mavis, sorry Mr ActioNMan, sent me a lovely little drawing of what to put where and included all sorts of techie stuff, so it looks as though he'll be receiving more of my hard earned very soon.

Thanks again...
