Does anyone know what boat this hull is for?
« on: November 25, 2006, 09:02:06 pm »

I have a boat hull and I would like to build the boat.  Does anyone know exactly what it is?  I've had several people tell me what they thought it was including a White Star, Blue Star and a PT boat.  Any thoughts out there?  The hull is 52" long, 14" beam and 6" high at transom.  Thanks, Jens

Hi looks like a PT boat to me. That said I'm not an expert. Initially I thought it was somthing like a vospers crash tender/ASR launch or MTB (all very similar looking hulls), but the forward shearline rising is unlike either of those. I'm sure someone out ther will have the defiantive answer. One question though. Where did you get that mister? looks a great fast hull, and I have a couple of engines that would make it fly. I gotta get me one O' them.

best O' luck mate.

Looks like a fairly ordinary cabin cruiser type thingy to me, definitely not a PT boat or Vosper, or any service craft that I've ever seen. It isn't a high speed hull, probably not much more than 20 knots, so the spray rails look as though they may have been added partly for styling or decorative purposes.

Thanks for the info...that's great.  Any ideas where I could get plans for this? Our local hobby stores had no idea what type of hull and no idea where to get plans.
Thanks to both of you
Jens :)

It looks like a freelance/semi-scale cabin/sports cruiser to me. Use your imagination and design a superstructure for it. A SC.91 engine should make it go ok, or maybe a standard Zenoah petrol.
Should be able to make a nice boat out of it.

I'd suggest it may be a Bertram, they are just gorgeous boats cast in the US sports-fisherman mould. It would also make a fine base for a model of the more elegant Chris-Craft Commander, one of the later and larger models.

pop in a pair of graupner speed700s in her, then you could run pretty much where you like, as local authorities are clamping down on IC.  stoke on trent's nearest IC lake is telford for example.  edinburgh is electric/sail/steam only as is wirral club.

These two pics of Bertrams may be helpful, the model is what I'd be inclined to build your hull into, and the full size boat is a smaller version but shows to good effect the family resemblance of the hulls.

Hi there....

Thank you very much for that info...my hull indeed looks like a Bertram.  It's very exciting to know that this hull may actually be a model of something that actually exists and a darn nice boat at that.  Any suggestions on how to get plans?  I don't mind scaling down from original or scaling up from a smaller plan but where can I buy plans?  Our one and only hobby store in Victoria has been unable to help in any way or make suggestions.  Perhaps now that I have a name I will be able to find plans.

Thanks again,

Jens

Hello Jens
Try   www.sell-it-easy.de   click on English, then Ship Models, then Construction Plans, then Motorised and look for p/n LIT9732. Price EUR18.00. The hull in the catalogue photo is not as nice as yours, the superstructure would look great on your hull though! The plan is a 1/11th scale featuring the 46ft real life model. It has cut down topsides aft, an easy mod I think.

Hi Christian...
Thank you very much for the info to buy the Bertram boat plans.  That's amazing...I spent hours trying to find plans & info and never came across that site.  I have now purchased the boat plans and look forward to starting this project.
Once again, I like to thank you for your help...it was most appreciated.  I hope to post pictures on my progress once I get started...(hopefully one day soon)

:)  Jens
