Hi Martin,
I've acquired this model from my brother,as you can see its in need of some restoration.I was wondering if you or your members could identify what kind of boat this is,thanks very much for your help,

Its not a schooner, It looks more like a ketch with top sails rigged

Is it just my imagination,or does it look like the keel has been enlarged in order to ballast the ship?

Hi I think your model is a simple English schooner, of the type used in the fruit trade in the 1890's, how long is she?
I restored a similar model that was free sailing to RC.  Suggest there is a fore sail jib missing.
See picture below, this one is about 30 inches overall.

At risk of being proven wrong, I would suggest that it is rigged as a gaff ketch and not a schooner. {:-{

I agree it is a ketch, with main and mizzen masts. A schooner would have fore and main masts.

Two masts with a fore and aft rigged main mast and a smaller mizzen mast.

Schooner

Two masts with both fore and aft rigged. Some were fitted with a raffee topsail
