Useless Brushless ESC.
« on: November 22, 2009, 05:57:58 pm »

Hi Mayhemmers,
I bought this brushless ESC recently on eBay, not because it was a boat ESC but mainly because it was cheap and to try out some brushless motors I own.  However, Having connected it to the motors and radio it just sits there making silly noises and, no matter how I try, I can't get it to work.  I have tried Google for the answer and even trying suggestions I have found without success.  I have emailed the seller but, obviously, being in Hong Kong have had no reply whatsoever :((.
I would warn anyone considering one of these ESC's to forget about it - they might be cheap but if they don't work you might as well throw your pennies down the drain >:-o.  I suppose this is the risk you take when buying from Hong Kong/China :((.

Hello Derek
Have you tried to program the radio, with the brushless esc's i have used you have to move the throttle stick to various positions to program the radio before you get any reponse from the motors, typically start off with the stick in mid position then move to full after 1 second then to neutral or down to low. I have bought one of the 80amp mystery esc's for an airboat project and now hope its alright, i do know of a few people who use them on helicopters with no problem.

It appears that the speedcontroller does not have bec so you will need a normal receiver battery for the rx.
see if these instructions are any good. Bill

Many thanks, Bill.  I realised that there was no bec and used receiver ni-cds but, as I said, nothing except silly noises which I know are supposed to be part of the programming system but absolutely nothing.  {:-{ :((

hi there mate
what radio u using? ,if u are using a transmitter that has forward and reverse,
you will have to hold throttle down to the bottom when u turn the esc on,or it may enter programming mode,if that does'nt work,
reverse the channel and do the above again.
its a rc aeroplane esc forward only, designed for aeroplane tx only, not forward and reverse tx(spectrum or 35mhz tx).
hope this helps.

Thanks, Jabba.  I am using Spektrum 2.4Ghz gear and I have tried every possible combination without any success.  I knew that it was an aeroplane ESC but, as I said, I bought it because it was cheap and to try out some motors I own until I can get the appropriate boat ESC.  {:-{ :((

Hiya Derek,

Much as I faint from giving info over the border from Suffolk, I bought a couple of these some months ago and had the same problem of decoding the 'tunes'
I managed to find the right sequences on www.giantcod.co.uk forum under the 'New SP Speed Controller Manual'  and they now work fine.

Best of Luck

Tony

Many thanks, Tony.  I will have a look at the giantcod website.
Don't worry about Suffolk - I am an exiled North Yorkshireman and as long as you are on the 'correct' side of the Pennines that's okay by me ok2 ;) :-) :-)).
Best wishes,

Derek.

(PS. Please don't anyone take umbrage - it's only meant in fun O0).

Oh, well, no one's perfect  ;) ;D :-).
I've printed off the instruction from giantcod, Tony, but not had time for another play with the ESC.  My poor old brain does not work too well these days and if this does not solve the problem it will have to go into the filing system :((.
